The Modelling and Simulation of land cover change are fundamental to the evaluation of successive environmental effects. Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) give major procedures which can be valuable in the analysis at the town locale as well as the city levels. The study project the future land use change of Kenyir Basin in Hulu Terengganu. RS data from Thematic Mapper sensor of 2000, 2009 and Operational Land Imager of 2016 were used for the analysis. The study used supervised classification technique for classification, and Cellular Automata Markovian (CA-Markov) Model analysis was used for future projection of 2030. The result classified water body, vegetation and urban area. Modelling analysis reveals a continuous pattern of urban growth in the Kenyir Basin from 5.04 km, 79.51 km, 117.03 km and 220 km in the years 2001, 2009, 2016 and the projected the year 2030 with 0.6934 K-standard value of stimulation. This study gives a chance to characterise and apply better methodologies for environmental management of land use to make improved coordination between urban growths, and conservation of natural environment.

Application of Ca-Markov Model for the Analysis of Urban Growth in Kenyir Basin

Cajuputi essential oil is extracted from the leaves of Melaleuca cajuputi Powell. This study is performed to spatially classify the variation of Melaleuca cajuputi essential oil fingerprint based on different sampling location using chemometric technique along Terengganu coastal area. Discriminant Analysis (DA) successfully discriminate 10 fingerprint of essential oil into three different groups with three significant peaks in FTIR analysis. Hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis (HACA) successfully grouped the 10 sampling stations into three groups (cluster A, B and C).Classification criteria is based on the intensity movement of functional group either bending or stretching of the essential oil compound Multiple linear regression (MLR) was used to develop an equation model that explains the prediction of species fingerprint in each cluster by different locations.

Water is an important element that profoundly influence the living organisms. When water resources management is systematically and efficiently managed, it produces clean water sources without pollution. Therefore, it is very essential to assess the water quality status for assuring the good quality of water to the consumer. The objective of the study is to identify the status of water quality index in the catchment ecosystem of UniSZA Lake, Terengganu. Six water sam- plings were carried out for each two weeks during dry season where six parameters were measured and Malaysian Department of Environment-Water Quality Index (DOE-WQI) was calculated and classified based on the Interim National Water Quality Standards, Malaysia (INWQS). Results for chemicals parameters for dissolved oxygen range from 1.24 to 16.76 mg/L, biochem- ical oxygen demand range from 0.41 to 3.20 mg/L, chemical oxygen demand range from 18.67 to 111.33 mg/L, and ammoniacal nitrogen range from 0.05 to 10.03 mg/L. Results for physical parameters for total suspended solid range from 1.40 to 117.0 mg/L and pH range from 6.29 to 9.94. Overall, the WQI calculated for UniSZA Lake falls in Class II and Class III means that it is safe for recreational body contact and could support aquatic organism.
