Implications of insecticide resistance for malaria vector control with long-lasting insecticidal nets: a WHO-coordinated, prospective, international, observational cohort study
Immo Kleinschmidt,Immo Kleinschmidt,John S. Bradley,Tessa B. Knox,Abraham Mnzava,Hmooda Toto Kafy,Charles Mbogo,Bashir Adam Ismail,Jude D. Bigoga,Alioun Adechoubou,Kamaraju Raghavendra,Jackie Cook,Elfatih M. Malik,Zinga José Nkuni,Michael B. Macdonald,Nabie Bayoh,Eric Ochomo,Etienne Fondjo,Herman Parfait Awono-Ambene,Josiane Etang,Martin Akogbeto,Rajendra M Bhatt,Mehul Kumar Chourasia,Dipak Kumar Swain,Teresa Kinyari,Krishanthi Subramaniam,Achille Massougbodji,Mariam Okê-Sopoh,Aurore Ogouyemi-Hounto,Celestin Kouambeng,Mujahid Sheikhedin Abdin,Philippa A. West,Khalid A Elmardi,Sylvie Cornelie,Vincent Corbel,Neena Valecha,Evan M. Mathenge,Luna Kamau,Jonathan Lines,Martin J. Donnelly,Martin J. Donnelly +40 more
TL;DR: Irrespective of resistance, populations in malaria endemic areas should continue to use long-lasting insecticidal nets to reduce their risk of infection and the development of additional vector control tools should be prioritised to reduce the unacceptably high malaria burden.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and determinants of anaemia in women of reproductive age in Sudan: analysis of a cross-sectional household survey
Khalid A Elmardi,Ishag Adam,Elfatih Mohammed Malik,Tarig Abdalla Abdelrahim,Mousab Siddig Elhag,Abdalla Ahmed Ibrahim,Mariam Adam Babiker,Asma Hashim Elhassan,Hmooda Toto Kafy,Azza Tag Eldin Elshafie,Lubna Mohammed Nawai,Mujahid Sheikhedin Abdin,Stef P. J. Kremers +12 more
TL;DR: The study supported the association between malaria infection and anaemia, but not with low and moderate malaria transmission areas, and resources need be allocated for all anaemic populations with special attention for the populations in most need.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anaemia prevalence and determinants in under 5 years children: findings of a cross-sectional population-based study in Sudan
Khalid A Elmardi,Ishag Adam,Elfatih M. Malik,Abdalla Ahmed Ibrahim,Asma Hashim Elhassan,Hmooda Toto Kafy,Lubna Mohammed Nawai,Mujahid Sheikhedin Abdin,Stef P. J. Kremers +8 more
TL;DR: About half of the under-5 children in Sudan are anaemic, with worse prevalence in younger children, and efforts targeted at improving socio-economic status, decreasing maternal anaemia and childhood malaria infection may mitigate this alarming trend.
