Journal ArticleDOI
Restoration of visual function in P23H rhodopsin transgenic rats by gene delivery of BiP/Grp78
Marina S. Gorbatyuk,Tessa B. Knox,Matthew M. LaVail,Oleg S. Gorbatyuk,Syed Mohammed Noorwez,William W. Hauswirth,Jonathan H. Lin,Nicholas Muzyczka,Alfred S. Lewin +8 more
TL;DR: The preservation of photoreceptor function resulting from elevated levels of BiP is due to suppression of apoptosis rather than to a promotion of rhodopsin folding, and the preservation of vision in ADRP rats is preserved.
Journal ArticleDOI
Implications of insecticide resistance for malaria vector control with long-lasting insecticidal nets: a WHO-coordinated, prospective, international, observational cohort study
Immo Kleinschmidt,Immo Kleinschmidt,John S. Bradley,Tessa B. Knox,Abraham Mnzava,Hmooda Toto Kafy,Charles Mbogo,Bashir Adam Ismail,Jude D. Bigoga,Alioun Adechoubou,Kamaraju Raghavendra,Jackie Cook,Elfatih M. Malik,Zinga José Nkuni,Michael B. Macdonald,Nabie Bayoh,Eric Ochomo,Etienne Fondjo,Herman Parfait Awono-Ambene,Josiane Etang,Martin Akogbeto,Rajendra M Bhatt,Mehul Kumar Chourasia,Dipak Kumar Swain,Teresa Kinyari,Krishanthi Subramaniam,Achille Massougbodji,Mariam Okê-Sopoh,Aurore Ogouyemi-Hounto,Celestin Kouambeng,Mujahid Sheikhedin Abdin,Philippa A. West,Khalid A Elmardi,Sylvie Cornelie,Vincent Corbel,Neena Valecha,Evan M. Mathenge,Luna Kamau,Jonathan Lines,Martin J. Donnelly,Martin J. Donnelly +40 more
TL;DR: Irrespective of resistance, populations in malaria endemic areas should continue to use long-lasting insecticidal nets to reduce their risk of infection and the development of additional vector control tools should be prioritised to reduce the unacceptably high malaria burden.
Journal ArticleDOI
Malaria: Global progress 2000 – 2015 and future challenges
Richard E Cibulskis,Pedro L. Alonso,John J. Aponte,Maru Aregawi,Amy Barrette,Laurent Bergeron,Cristin A Fergus,Tessa B. Knox,Michael Lynch,Edith Patouillard,Silvia Schwarte,Saira Stewart,Ryan Williams +12 more
TL;DR: Reductions in malaria incidence and mortality rates were slowest in countries that had the largest numbers of malaria cases and deaths in 2000; reductions in incidence need to be greatly accelerated in these countries to achieve future malaria targets.
Journal ArticleDOI
An online tool for mapping insecticide resistance in major Anopheles vectors of human malaria parasites and review of resistance status for the Afrotropical region
Tessa B. Knox,Elijah O. Juma,Eric Ochomo,Eric Ochomo,Helen Pates Jamet,Laban Ndungo,Patrick Chege,Nabie Bayoh,Raphael N’Guessan,Riann N. Christian,Riann N. Christian,Richard H. Hunt,Maureen Coetzee,Maureen Coetzee +13 more
TL;DR: The increasing pyrethroid and DDT resistance in Anopheles in the Afrotropical region is alarming and urgent attention should be afforded to testing An.
Journal ArticleDOI
Implementation of the global plan for insecticide resistance management in malaria vectors: progress, challenges and the way forward
Abraham Mnzava,Tessa B. Knox,Emmanuel A. Temu,Emmanuel A. Temu,Emmanuel A. Temu,Anna Trett,Christen Fornadel,Janet Hemingway,Melanie Renshaw +8 more
TL;DR: There is an urgent need for a global response plan to address deficits and ensure the correct and efficient use of available tools in order to maintain the effectiveness of current vector control efforts whilst novel vector control tools are under development.
