Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative Analyses of Zebrafish Anxiety-Like Behavior Using Conflict-Based Novelty Tests.
Elana V. Kysil,Darya A. Meshalkina,Erin E. Frick,David J. Echevarria,Denis B. Rosemberg,Caio Maximino,Monica Gomes Lima,Murilo S. de Abreu,Ana C.V.V. Giacomini,Leonardo José Gil Barcellos,Leonardo José Gil Barcellos,Cai Song,Cai Song,Allan V. Kalueff +13 more
TL;DR: This study reappraises NTT and LDT for studying anxiety-like states in zebrafish, and emphasizes their developing utility for neurobehavioral research, which can help optimize drug screening procedures by choosing more appropriate models for testing anxiolytic or anxiogenic drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diazepam and fluoxetine decrease the stress response in zebrafish.
Murilo S. de Abreu,Gessi Koakoski,Daiane Ferreira,Thiago Acosta Oliveira,João Gabriel Santos da Rosa,Darlan Gusso,Ana C.V.V. Giacomini,Angelo Luis Stapassoli Piato,Leonardo José Gil Barcellos +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that diazepam and fluoxetine inhibited the stress axis in zebrafish, suggesting that the presence of psychoactive drugs in aquatic ecosystems could cause neuroendocrine dysfunction in fish.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fluoxetine and diazepam acutely modulate stress induced-behavior.
Ana C.V.V. Giacomini,Murilo S. de Abreu,Luidia V. Giacomini,Anna Maria Siebel,Fernanda F. Zimerman,Cassiano L. Rambo,Ricieri Mocelin,Carla Denise Bonan,Angelo Luis Stapassoli Piato,Leonardo José Gil Barcellos,Leonardo José Gil Barcellos +10 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that the presence of these drugs in aquatic ecosystems causes significant behavioral alterations in fish, and that stress and fluoxetine and diazepam exposures decreased social interaction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Zebrafish models of autism spectrum disorder.
Daria A. Meshalkina,Marina N. Kizlyk,Elana V. Kysil,Adam D. Collier,David J. Echevarria,Murilo S. de Abreu,Leonardo José Gil Barcellos,Cai Song,Jason E. Warnick,Evan J. Kyzar,Allan V. Kalueff +10 more
TL;DR: The developing utility of zebrafish models of ASD, as well as current behavioral, toxicological and genetic models of Autism spectrum disorder, and future directions of research in this field are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gender differences in aggression and cortisol levels in zebrafish subjected to unpredictable chronic stress
Cassiano L. Rambo,Ricieri Mocelin,Matheus Marcon,Débora Villanova,Gessi Koakoski,Murilo S. de Abreu,Thiago Acosta Oliveira,Leonardo José Gil Barcellos,Angelo Luis Stapassoli Piato,Carla Denise Bonan +9 more
TL;DR: It is reported for the first time gender differences on behavioral parameters and cortisol levels in response to UCS in zebrafish, showing that UCS increased aggression in males, but not in females, which displayed more aggressive behavior at baseline than control males.
