Steganography is the practice of communication by covering information within other information mediums. The goal of steganography is to hide information in such a way that it remains hidden so that it looks normal from a commoner's perspective. It has been prevalent since ancient times, with the first use dating back to 440 BC in Greece. The etymology of steganography is a combination of the Greek words: steganos, “covered,” and graphia, “writing.” The modern usage of steganography, termed digital steganography, hides information in files stored on a computer. A standard steganography algorithm has three essential components: carrier, message, and key. Carrier is the file that carries the message and an optional key to add a layer of authentication. Researchers have implemented steganography utilizing different carriers, for example, image, audio, and text. The carrier may or may not have any relation with the confidential information. Image steganography is a type of steganography that deals with hiding a message in an image file. The image, as a result, ends up with noise. 

An Approach on Image Steganography Based on the Least Significant Bit Algorithm

Data is a collection of raw facts and there are lots of ways to protect it securely. Cryptography and steganography play crucial roles in the protection of data in the modern world. In order to maintain security, this paper implements a combination of both cryptography and steganography techniques. In cryptography, this work implements four levels of encryption for odd lines of text. The techniques used for encrypting the odd lines of text are scrambling alpha-numeric sequence, Cryptographic message syntax padding technique, ASCII conversion, and finally the famous RSA algorithm. Even lines are encrypted with regular substitution techniques following which the entire encrypted text is injected into an image and this technique is known as image steganography. Image Steganography is one of the popular techniques used to hide messages, where the image is in the form of dimensions. These dimensions are converted into pixels and according to the pixels the encrypted text will be embedded in the image. The same process is applied inversely for decryption and also the performances measured by the parameters MSE and PSNR. Through these parameters, the normal image and stego image is compared and provide good results. The entire process proposed in this paper results in a high-security level and good performance.

AbstractSteganography is one of the methods that may be used to obscure information to facilitate information exchange. Generally speaking, it may be determined as a study of communication that focuses mostly on methods of hiding the message via the use of various mediums such as images, audio and so on. In this method, if the message is adequately concealed, it will be difficult to extract the message from attackers and eavesdroppers. In this study, we investigate the use of QR codes for message exchange in steganography, as well as the AES approach. The end findings’ performance will be assessed by comparing image file quality before or after data has been hidden from view in these files. For maximum difficulty in detecting that their data is hidden in these files depending upon the encryption and decryption processes using the AES method, the quality of original and stego image files must be similar or very close to one another.
