Reversible axial-strain effect and extended strain limits in Y-Ba-Cu-O coatings on deformation-textured substrates

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured the axial tensile tensile strain of YBa2Cu3O7−δ (YBCO) coatings on buffered, deformation-textured substrates of pure Ni, Ni-5-at.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reversible axial-strain effect in Y Ba Cu O coated conductors

TL;DR: In this paper, the reversible strain effect in Y?Ba?Cu?O (YBCO) coated conductors contrasts with the general understanding that the effect of strain on the critical-current density Jc in practical high-temperature superconductors is determined only by crack formation in the ceramic component.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical properties of pure Ni and Ni-alloy substrate materials for Y–Ba–Cu–O coated superconductors

TL;DR: In this paper, rolling-assisted, biaxially-textured substrates (RABiTS) and substrates for ion-beam assisted deposition (IBAD) coated superconductors are measured at room temperature, 76, and 4 K. Results obtained are intended to serve as a database of mechanical properties of substrates having the same anneal state and texture as those incorporated in the general class of RE-Ba-Cu-O coated conductor composites.
Journal ArticleDOI

A probe for investigating the effects of temperature, strain, and magnetic field on transport critical currents in superconducting wires and tapes

TL;DR: In this article, a variable-temperature probe has been developed to study the effect of strain on the transport properties of superconducting wires and tapes in high magnetic fields, by soldering it to a thick coiled spring and twisting one end of the spring with respect to the other.
Journal ArticleDOI

Magnetic-field dependence of the reversible axial-strain effect in Y-Ba-Cu-O coated conductors

TL;DR: In this paper, the critical current density of an yttrium-barium-copperoxide (YBCO) coated conductor was measured at 76.5 K as a function of axial tensile strain /spl epsiv/ and magnetic field B applied parallel to the YBCO (a,b) plane.
