The Anglo-Australian Telescope/Wide Field Imager survey of the Monoceros Ring and Canis Major dwarf galaxy -II. From l = (280-025)°
Blair C. Conn,Blair C. Conn,Richard R. Lane,Geraint F. Lewis,Mike Irwin,Rodrigo A. Ibata,Nicolas F. Martin,Michele Bellazzini,Artem V. Tuntsov +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted a systematic search for evidence of the Monoceros Ring and Canis Major dwarf galaxy around the Galactic plane and concluded that there seem to be more detections above the plane than below it; in this survey, around 2/3 of the firm monoceros ring detections are in the north.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exploring the reality of density substructures in the Palomar 5 stellar stream
TL;DR: In this paper, the presence of substructures in the stellar stream of the Palomar 5 globular cluster, as derived from Sloan Digital Sky Survey data, was analyzed using a matched filter technique.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Profile of the Galactic Halo from Pan-STARRS1 3$\pi$ RR Lyrae.
Nina Hernitschek,Judith G. Cohen,Hans-Walter Rix,Branimir Sesar,Nicolas F. Martin,Eugene A. Magnier,Richard J. Wainscoat,Nick Kaiser,John L. Tonry,Rolf-Peter Kudritzki,Klaus W. Hodapp,K. C. Chambers,H. Flewelling,William S. Burgett +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors characterize the spatial density of the Pan-STARRS1 (PS1) sample of RR Lyrae stars, to study the properties of the old Galactic stellar halo as traced by RRab stars.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Pristine Inner Galaxy Survey (PIGS) II: Uncovering the most metal-poor populations in the inner Milky Way
Anke Arentsen,Else Starkenburg,Nicolas F. Martin,Nicolas F. Martin,David Aguado,Daniel B. Zucker,Carlos Allende Prieto,Carlos Allende Prieto,Vanessa Hill,Kim A. Venn,Raymond G. Carlberg,Jonay I. González Hernández,Jonay I. González Hernández,Lyudmila Mashonkina,Julio F. Navarro,Rubén Sánchez-Janssen,Mathias Schultheis,Guillaume F. Thomas,K. Youakim,Geraint F. Lewis,Jeffrey D. Simpson,Zhen Wan,Roger E. Cohen,Doug Geisler,Doug Geisler,J. E. O'Connell +25 more
TL;DR: The Pristine Inner Galaxy Survey (PIGS) as discussed by the authors was designed to find the metal-poor stars in the inner galaxy using CaHK photometry from the CFHT.
Journal ArticleDOI
A detailed study of Andromeda XIX, an extreme local analogue of ultra diffuse galaxies
Michelle L. M. Collins,Erik Tollerud,R. Michael Rich,Rodrigo A. Ibata,Nicolas F. Martin,Nicolas F. Martin,Scott Chapman,Karoline M. Gilbert,Karoline M. Gilbert,Janet Preston +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present spectra for ∼100 red giant branch stars in this galaxy, plus 16 stars in a nearby stellar stream, and derive the properties of And XIX, measuring a systemic velocity of ˂vr˃ = − 109.0 ± 1.6 kms−1 and a velocity dispersion of σvr=7.8+1.7−1.5kpc.
