Journal ArticleDOI
Oxytocin Enhances Amygdala-Dependent, Socially Reinforced Learning and Emotional Empathy in Humans
René Hurlemann,Alexandra Patin,Oezguer A. Onur,Michael X Cohen,Tobias Baumgartner,Sarah Metzler,Isabel Dziobek,Juergen Gallinat,Michael Wagner,Wolfgang Maier,Keith M. Kendrick +10 more
TL;DR: Findings provide the first demonstration that OT can facilitate amygdala-dependent, socially reinforced learning and emotional empathy in men, as well as two patients with selective bilateral damage to the amygdala.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human amygdala reactivity is diminished by the β-noradrenergic antagonist propranolol
René Hurlemann,Henrik Walter,Anne Kathrin Rehme,Juraj Kukolja,S. C. Santoro,Christoph Schmidt,Knut Schnell,Frank Musshoff,Christian Keysers,Wolfgang Maier,Keith M. Kendrick,Oezguer A. Onur +11 more
TL;DR: These findings provide the missing link between the anxiolytic potential of propranolol and the biological basis of β-noradrenergic activation in the human BLA as a key target for the pharmacological inhibition of anxiety neurocircuitry.
Journal ArticleDOI
Noradrenergic enhancement of amygdala responses to fear
Oezguer A. Onur,Henrik Walter,Thomas E. Schlaepfer,Thomas E. Schlaepfer,Anne Kathrin Rehme,Christoph Schmidt,Christian Keysers,Wolfgang Maier,René Hurlemann +8 more
TL;DR: Extrapolation of data to conditions of traumatic stress suggests that disinhibited endogenous NE signaling could serve as a crucial etiological contributor to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) by eliciting exaggerated BLA responses to fear signals.
