Mit seiner Publikation “One Size Fits All: An Idea Whose Time Has Come and Gone?“ [St05] hat Michael Stonebraker 2005 die Datenbankszene provoziert. Er vertritt dort die These, dass die eingeführten und in vielen Kontexten eingesetzten „traditionellen“ Datenbanksysteme zwar für viele datenzentrische Anwendungen eingesetzt werden, aber keineswegs die optimalen Systeme für viele dieser Anwendungen (OLAP, Stream Processing, XML Datenbanken, wissenschaftliche Datenbanken, Textsuche) sind. In einer späteren Publikation [St07] stellte er sogar die These auf, dass es keine Anwendungen gibt, für die die traditionellen Datenbanksysteme die beste Alternative sind. Er sagte voraus, dass sich in der kommerziellen Welt eine Anzahl unabhängiger spezialisierter „neuer“ Datenbanksysteme aufsplitten werde, die bestenfalls durch ein gemeinsames Frontend verbunden sind.

"One Size Fits All": An Idea Whose Time Has Come and Gone?

The fusion of edge computing and artificial intelligence (AI) technology is a key enabler for the smart Internet of Things (IoT). However, these two emerging paradigms face many issues for their integration, such as data storage structure, model generation algorithms, and cloud-edge collaboration mechanisms. Moreover, edge computing is not ready for supporting AI and can be enabled to support AI via some basic network functions related to Quality of Experience (QoE), such as passive computation offloading and content caching. In this article, we present an intelligent cooperative edge (ICE) computing in IoT networks to achieve a complementary integration of AI and edge computing. The AI-related modules of edge computing are redesigned for distributing AI’s core functions from the cloud to the edge. IoT-generated data are differentiated as user-private data preserved locally in IoT devices, edge-private data isolated on the edge and public data uploaded to the cloud. Therefore, a cloud-scale machine learning model can be generated, followed by privacy-preserving transfer learning running on each edge, which also has data updated more frequently that enables the model’s incremental learning. The model distribution is accomplished through lightweight deployment pipelines consisting of cloud compression and edge reconstruction. Conversely, some key issues of edge computing, such as the computation offloading and content caching, achieve a better solution using the localized AI. We perform the prototype-based evaluation, which indicates that the ICE computing architecture enables a benign combination of AI and edge computing.

Intelligent Cooperative Edge Computing in Internet of Things

This article presents a Virtual Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (VTEDS)-based framework for the development of intelligent sensor nodes with plug-and-play capabilities in order to contribute to the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) toward the Web of Things (WoT). It makes use of new lightweight protocols that allow sensors to self-describe, auto-calibrate, and auto-register. Such protocols enable the development of novel IoT solutions while guaranteeing low latency, low power consumption, and the required Quality of Service (QoS). Thanks to the developed human-centered tools, it is possible to configure and modify dynamically IoT device firmware, managing the active transducers and their communication protocols in an easy and intuitive way, without requiring any prior programming knowledge. In order to evaluate the performance of the system, it was tested when using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ethernet-based smart sensors in different scenarios. Specifically, user experience was quantified empirically (i.e., how fast the system shows collected data to a user was measured). The obtained results show that the proposed VTED architecture is very fast, with some smart sensors (located in Europe) able to self-register and self-configure in a remote cloud (in South America) in less than 3 s and to display data to remote users in less than 2 s.

A Plug-and-Play Human-Centered Virtual TEDS Architecture for the Web of Things

This paper considers the model of the system of information protection of data base of the mobile terminals accounting information System in Ukraine (ISRMTU). The system of the customer performs the functions of automation of production processes related to the IMEI database maintenance (the IMEI code in this document is used to denote the identification codes of the mobile terminals of the GSM Standards Group, CDMA), registration of applications for the import of radio electronics and emitting devices (REFS) on the territory of Ukraine and issuing permits for the import of REFS.

Survey of hardware IoT platforms

The study examines the core and architecture of virtualization technology, the state of the modern infrastructure of information and telecommunications networks, as well as the use of virtualization to solve problems of traditional networks. Development of recommendations for modeling and further implementation of NFV at all stages of IT infrastructure creation. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of using the results of work in universities for the design and creation of information and telecommunications networks, in companies for the modernization and analysis of the existing network. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the attempt to systematically and conceptually study all the possibilities of virtualization technology and predict the possible consequences of its use, as well as in the development of recommendations for the implementation of the concept of virtualization. Development of Recommendations for the Implementation of Virtualization Concepts in Modern Networks

Smart home has become more and more popular in recent years. Smart homes filled with connected things are loaded with possibilities to make our lives easier, more convenient, and more comfortable. This paper provides technology analysis for smart home implementation. It also includes description of technologies, applied for implementation of smart homes in the past. All these technologies were relevant and competitive within the contemporary networks, but they are not able to satisfy modern requirements. This paper also concentrates on the concept of internet of things. This is a new trend, which is experiencing active development. In this paper, the problems of the internet of things concept implementation have been done.

Technology analysis for smart home implementation

In the article the author analyzed the known simple types of self-tuning automatic control systems, the order of choosing the parameters of the main control circuit for a given structure and parameters of the self-tuning circuit. In the article the theory of P.L. Chebyshev s approximations for the study of control systems with limit cycle was used. The mathematical formulas give the possibility to construct a transitional process in a control system arising from parametric perturbations under initial conditions. The proposed method allows it possible to calculate the parameters and to simulate a specific control system.
