Superhydrophobic tracks for low-friction, guided transport of water droplets.
Henrikki Mertaniemi,Ville Jokinen,Lauri Sainiemi,Sami Franssila,Abraham Marmur,Olli Ikkala,Robin H. A. Ras +6 more
TL;DR: A simple yet effi cient approach for droplet transport is demonstrated, in which the droplet is moving on a superhydrophobic surface, using gravity or electrostatic forces as the driving force for droplets transportation and using tracks with vertical walls as gravitational potential barriers to design trajectories.
Journal ArticleDOI
SEM imaging of chiral nematic films cast from cellulose nanocrystal suspensions
TL;DR: In this article, a SEM examination of the fracture surface of a slowly-dried cellulose film showed a surprisingly regular fan-like pattern which was shown to be characteristic of cross-sections of the left-handed helicoidal arrangement of nanocrystals, where the helicoidal axis was almost perpendicular to the film surfaces.
Journal ArticleDOI
Counter-ion induced processibility of polyaniline: conducting melt-processible polymer blends
Olli Ikkala,Jukka Laakso,K. Vakiparta,Esa Virtanen,Heikki Ruohonen,Hannele Järvinen,T. Taka,P. Passiniemi,Jan-Erik Österholm +8 more
TL;DR: The percolation threshold for conductivity is observed at astonishingly low weight fractions of the conjugated conducting polyaniline indicating the formation of a unique morphology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Preservation of Superhydrophobic and Superoleophobic Properties upon Wear Damage
TL;DR: This work shows that vulnerability can be solved by superamphiphobic (i.e., both superhydrophobic and superoleophobic) surfactant-coated aerogel surfaces, and predicts that the concept can open routes for robust self-cleaning coating technologies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mesomorphic State of Poly(vinylpyridine)-Dodecylbenzenesulfonic Acid Complexes in Bulk and in Xylene Solution
TL;DR: In this paper, the mesomorphic behavior of poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P2VP) and poly(4vinyl pyridine (P4VP) with p-dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA), characterized by FT-IR, was investigated in the bulk and in xylene, i.e., a good solvent for the alkyl side chains.
