Journal ArticleDOI

Twenty years of experience with corrosion failures caused by manganese oxidizing microorganisms

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized observations and conclusions drawn from failure analysis related to these organisms and provided an overview on the methods found useful in their investigation and concluded that manganese oxidizers may appear in all kinds of freshwater systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Non-destructive techniques for the detection of sigma phase in duplex stainless steel: A comprehensive review

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the use of non-destructive techniques (NDT) for the detection of σ-phase and their application in engineering failure analysis and field study cases is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Corrosion of metals in natural waters influenced by manganese oxidizing microorganisms

TL;DR: In this paper, a model for corrosion by manganeseoxidizing microorganisms is proposed for stainless steel, based on the principles of electrochemical corrosion of metals and on the electrochemical properties of Mn3+/4+- compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbially influenced corrosion of stainless steel by manganese oxidizing microorganisms

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a mechanism called MIC by MOMOs, which is the consequence of biomineralized manganese oxides in contact with the metal and showed that localized corrosion may develop at elevated but normally undercritical chloride concentration in the water.
