Modeling of human breath: conceptual and mathematical statements

This study explored biochemical parameters of blood in workers operating in the main workshops at the Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant: magnesium (Mg) workshop (furnace operator, chlorinator operator, and electrolyzer operator), titanium tetrachloride workshop (mill operator and titanium (Ti) production operator), and Ti sponge workshop (reduction furnace operator, knockout operator, and crushing machine operator). The control group consisted of 112 male workers, whose duties were not related to similar occupational hazards (plumbers, electricians, janitors cleaning the administrative building, security guards, and carpenters). The activity of gamma-glutamyl transferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, creatine phosphokinase, lactate dehydrogenase, cholinesterase, alkaline phosphate, and α-amylase and the concentration of serum calcium, Mg, phosphorus, and chloride ion were measured. To clarify the nature of pathological changes that occur in the body of mammals under the influence of toxic gases and dust, this study also included 130 sexually mature, white female rats. Animals and workers were exposed to examination of the same indicators. Changes in test results of enzymes and minerals indicated a negative impact that harmful production factors may have had on the bodies of workers. Findings showed significant fluctuations in enzyme and mineral blood profiles of workers as compared to controls. In the test animals, changes in the enzyme activity and mineral blood composition were as diverse as in the workers. These findings will be useful when identifying markers of a negative impact of harmful substances in an industrial workplace and when developing measures to prevent employees from developing an occupational disease.

The effect of work environment on the biochemical profile of workers operating at the Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant.

The aim of the study was to develop a mathematical model to research hypoxic states in case of simulation of an organism infectious lesions. The model is based on the methods of mathematical modeling and the theory of optimal control of moving objects. The processes of organism damage are simulated with the mathematical model of immune response developed by G.I. Marchuk and the members of his scientific school, adapted to current conditions. This model is based on Burnet’s clone selection theory of the determining role of antigen. Simulation results using the model are presented. The dependencies of infectious courses on the volumetric velocity of systemic blood flow is analyzed on the complex mathematical model of immune response, respiratory and blood circulation systems. The immune system is shown to be rather sensitive to the changes in blood flow via capillaries. Thus, the organ blood flows can be used as parameters for the model by which the respiratory, immune response, and blood circulation systems interact and interplay.

Methodical approaches to health risk assessмеnt of heterogeneous environmental factors based on evolutionary models

Within the framework of a multilevel mathematical model to describe the evolution of functional disorders of the human organism under the influence of environment factors, a mathematical model of the "meso-level" of the human respiratory system is developed. The article is deals with the development of the meso-level model - the formulation of a constitutive model to describe the airflow in a porous lung medium. Human lungs filled with small airways and alveoli, with air contained in them, are modeled by an elastically deformable saturated porous medium enclosed in an internal chamber with varying volume (movable walls). Conceptual and mathematical statements are presented. Air movement in the deformable porous medium of lungs is described by ratios of the mechanics of deformable solid body and filtration theory. As an element of this sub-model an analytical solution is obtained for an auxiliary geometrically linear problem of the all-round compression of an elastic thin-walled hollow sphere filled with air to determine the rate of mean stress of the two-phase medium of the lungs, taking into account the interaction between the lung tissue and the air contained in the lungs. To confirm the hypothesis on the acceptability of a linear solution of an auxiliary problem for large deformations, a similar problem was numerically solved in a geometrically nonlinear formulation. The results show that the obtained analytical solution is in satisfactory agreement with the solution of a similar problem in a nonlinear formulation both for calm and deep breathing, which indicates the possibility of using the former in the construction of the considered sub-model.

On modeling of airflow in human lungs: constitutive relations to describe deformation of porous medium

This work is aimed at improving a mathematical multiphase flow model in the antroduodenum, developed previously. Based on the experimental data found in the literature, several main theses concerning viscosity of monosaccharides and disaccharides are formulated: the concentration dependence of the viscosity can be considered linear at low carbohydrates concentrations (<30%); the concentration dependence of the viscosity does not satisfy linear or exponential laws at high carbohydrates concentrations; there is an exponential relationship between viscosity and molality of solution. New equations have been added to link the viscosity and density of mixture with the concentrations of food components. In numerical experiments, we have investigated the effect of the pyloric zone slope angle on the process of gastric evacuation. Obtained results showed that physical properties of food and morphological features of a patient have a great influence on the flow characteristics in the antroduodenum.

A mathematical model of flow in the antroduodenum: Changes in the density and viscosity in relation to the component composition

To know the processes occurring in the neuroendocrine and immune system, the complex and branching regulation mechanisms should be taken into account. Most of the studies in this area are dedicated to the biological and mathematical description of individual parts of the regulatory mechanisms, and it greatly facilitates the understanding of the phenomena being studied. But there is a lack of comprehensive description of the processes and internal communications. In the present article, a mathematical model for describing the antiviral immune response is considered taking into account the interacting regulatory influences of the immune and neuroendocrine systems. To describe the innate immunity, the proposed model uses parameters reflecting quantitative measures of the interferon concentration (the inductor of resistance to the infection of target organ cells) and NK-cells (responsible for removing of the infected cells). The simulation of acquired immunity is performed using parameters characterizing the concentration of virus-specific cytotoxic T cells and antibody-forming B lymphocytes. The regulatory mechanisms considered in the model cover the influence of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the populations of the T-helper cells. The model is developed within the framework of the concept of a multi-level model of the human body, taking into account the interactions between systems and the functional state of the organs included in the review. The model also takes into account the spatial organization of immune and infectious processes in various organs and tissues, for which the delay time of interaction of the components is introduced. The model includes a system of 18 ordinary differential equations with a delayed argument, the parameters of which characterize the rates of various processes that affect the dynamics of infection. The parameters are identified according to published experimental data describing the process of infection of the body with a virus. The dynamics of the immune and neuroendocrine systems under viral infection was calculated, taking into account the disturbance of the synthetic function of the bone marrow. The study provides a qualitative picture of the biological factors that can explain the kinetics of the development of a viral infection.
