Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidants in adipose tissue and risk of myocardial infarction: the EURAMIC study

TL;DR: The hypothesis that high beta-carotene concentrations within the normal range reduce the risk of a first myocardial infarction is supported and is compatible with previous observations of reduced risk among vitamin E supplement users only.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tissue stores of individual monounsaturated fatty acids and breast cancer : the EURAMIC study

TL;DR: Data do not support the hypothesis that increasing tissue stores of oleic acid are protective against breast cancer in non-Spanish populations, and this finding implies that the strong protective associations reported for olive oil intake in dietary studies may be due to some other protective components of the oil and not to the direct effect of oalic acid uptake.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dietary habits, sexual maturation, and plasma hormones in pubertal girls: a longitudinal study.

TL;DR: It is concluded that a diet rich in vegetable products, especially fiber, may affect the rate of physical and hormonal sexual maturation, possibly mediated by the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determinants of p,p'-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethane (DDE) concentration in adipose tissue in women from five European cities

TL;DR: In subjects, adipose tissue p,p'DDE concentrations were only weakly related with biomarkers reflecting intake of fish and other foods, consistent with the notion that p, p'-DDE exists in different foods and, given the widespread contamination of the food chain, is relatively evenly distributed among foods.
