Journal ArticleDOI
Acute HIV infection: impact on the spread of HIV and transmission of drug resistance.
Sabine Yerly,Samir Vora,P Rizzardi,J. P. Chave,P. Vernazza,Markus Flepp,Amalio Telenti,Manuel Battegay,A L Veuthey,J P Bru,Martin Rickenbach,Bernard Hirschel,Luc Perrin +12 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that drug resistance transmission may have decreased recently in Switzerland through the increased frequency of infection with HIV non-B subtypes and the steady increase of patients with undetectable viraemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection and biologic characterization of infectious HIV-1 in semen of seropositive men
P. Vernazza,P. Vernazza,Joseph J. Eron,Myron S. Cohen,Charles van der Horst,Luigi Troiani,Susan A. Fiscus +6 more
TL;DR: The compatibility of epidemiologic data with the finding that significantly more HIV is recovered in semen from patients with advanced disease, suggests that HIV culture of semen samples may provide a useful surrogate marker to measure infectivity in clinical studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Failures of 1 week on, 1 week off antiretroviral therapies in a randomized trial
Jintanat Ananworanich,Reto Nüesch,Le Braz M,Ploenchan Chetchotisakd,Asda Vibhagool,Wicharuk S,Ruxrungtham K,Hansjakob Furrer,David A. Cooper,Bernard Hirschel,Enos Bernasconi,Matthias Cavassini,Ebnöther C,Catherine Fagard,Daniel Genné,Nina Khanna,Luc Perrin,Praphan Phanupak,Sasiwimol Ubolyam,P. Vernazza,Sabine Yerly +20 more
TL;DR: The 1-week-on–1- week-off schedule, as tested in the Staccato study, showed an unacceptably high failure rate and was therefore terminated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Obesity Trends and Body Mass Index Changes After Starting Antiretroviral Treatment: The Swiss HIV Cohort Study
Barbara Hasse,Martin Iff,Bruno Ledergerber,Alexandra Calmy,Patrick Schmid,Christoph Hauser,Matthias Cavassini,Enos Bernasconi,Catia Marzolini,Philip E. Tarr,Vincent Aubert,J. Speck,Cornelia Staehelin,P. Tarr,A. Telenti,Alexandra Trkola,P. Vernazza,Rainer Weber,Sabine Yerly +59 more
TL;DR: Increasing obesity rates in Swiss HIV+ persons may partially be due to aging, demographic changes and earlier ART start, and most BMI increase occurred in year 1 of ART.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sensitive method for the detection of infectious HIV in semen of seropositive individuals
TL;DR: It is concluded that the method is highly sensitive for the detection of HIV from semen, however, the recovery rate of infectious cell-free virus in seminal fluid from clinical samples is infrequent.
