Journal ArticleDOI
Dexamethasone and supportive care with or without whole brain radiotherapy in treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer with brain metastases unsuitable for resection or stereotactic radiotherapy (QUARTZ): results from a phase 3, non-inferiority, randomised trial.
P. Mulvenna,Matthew Nankivell,Rachael Barton,Corinne Faivre-Finn,P. Wilson,Elaine McColl,Barbara Moore,Iona Brisbane,David Ardron,Tanya Holt,Sally Morgan,C. Lee,Kathryn Waite,Neil A Bayman,C. Pugh,Benjamin Sydes,Richard Stephens,Mahesh K.B. Parmar,Ruth E Langley +18 more
TL;DR: Significantly more episodes of drowsiness, hair loss, nausea, and dry or itchy scalp were reported while patients were receiving WBRT, although there was no evidence of a difference in the rate of serious adverse events between the two groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interim data from the Medical Research Council QUARTZ Trial: does whole brain radiotherapy affect the survival and quality of life of patients with brain metastases from non-small cell lung cancer?
Ruth E Langley,Richard Stephens,Matthew Nankivell,C. Pugh,Barbara Moore,Neal Navani,P. Wilson,Corinne Faivre-Finn,R Barton,M K B Parmar,P. Mulvenna +10 more
TL;DR: Interim data indicate no early evidence of detriment to quality of life, overall survival or QALYs for patients allocated to OSC alone and strengthen the argument for continuing QUARTZ to definitively answer this important clinical question.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dilemmas concerning dose distribution and the influence of relative biological effect in proton beam therapy of medulloblastoma.
TL;DR: Physical and radiobiological factors are shown to combine to give a higher risk of tumour recurrence with further risks on tumour control when dose reduction schedules used for X-ray therapy are replicated for proton therapy for "low-risk" patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Multicenter Randomized Trial of Ibandronate Compared With Single-Dose Radiotherapy for Localized Metastatic Bone Pain in Prostate Cancer
Peter Hoskin,Santhanam Sundar,Krystyna Reczko,Sharon Forsyth,Natasha Mithal,Bruce Sizer,David Bloomfield,Sunil Upadhyay,P. Wilson,Amy A Kirkwood,Michael R.L. Stratford,Mark Jitlal,Allan Hackshaw +12 more
TL;DR: A single infusion of ibandronate had outcomes similar to a single dose of radiotherapy for metastatic prostate bone pain and could be considered when radiotherapy is not available, although each treatment had different side effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Whole brain radiotherapy for brain metastases from non-small lung cancer: Quality of life (QoL) and overall survival (OS) results from the UK Medical Research Council QUARTZ randomised clinical trial (ISRCTN 3826061).
P. Mulvenna,Matthew Nankivell,Rachael Barton,Corinne Faivre-Finn,P. Wilson,Barbara Moore,Elaine McColl,Iona Brisbane,David Ardron,Benjamin Sydes,C. Pugh,Tanya Holt,Neil A Bayman,Sally Morgan,C. Lee,Kathryn Waite,Richard Stephens,Mahesh M K Parmar,Ruth E Langley +18 more
TL;DR: This data indicates that inoperable cases whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) and dexamethasone is standard treatment for brain metastases with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
