Journal ArticleDOI

Composition dependence of indentation deformation and indentation cracking in glass

TL;DR: In this paper, the Vickers indentation test was used to study the crack initiation and deformation behaviors of oxide glasses belonging to different chemical systems, and the glass types were compared according to their resistance to the formation of corner cracks.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anomalous Hall hysteresis in T m 3 F e 5 O 12 /Pt with strain-induced perpendicular magnetic anisotropy

TL;DR: In this article, robust interface strain-induced perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in atomically flat ferrimagnetic insulator (TIG) films grown with pulsed laser deposition was demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crackling noise during failure of alumina under compression: the effect of porosity.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied acoustic emission avalanches during the process of failure of porous alumina samples (Al2O3) under compression and showed that the energy distributions of the acoustic emission signals are compatible with a power-law behaviour over two decades in energy with an exponent ϵ = 1.8 ± 0.1.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predicting failure: acoustic emission of berlinite under compression.

TL;DR: A method to use pico-seismicity detection of foreshocks to warn of mine collapse before the main failure (the collapse) occurs is identified, which can be applied to highly porous materials only and is consistent with the value reported for compressed porous systems displaying critical behavior.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crackling noise during failure of alumina under compression: effect of porosity

TL;DR: In this article, the acoustic emission avalanches during the failure process of porous alumina samples (Al2O3) under compression were studied and a broad distribution of energies with a fat tail, compatible with the existence of an underlying critical point.
