ERS/EACTS statement on the management of malignant pleural effusions.
Anna C. Bibby,Anna C. Bibby,Patrick Dorn,Ioannis Psallidas,José M. Porcel,Julius Janssen,Marios Froudarakis,Dragan Subotic,P Astoul,Peter B. Licht,Ralph A. Schmid,Arnaud Scherpereel,Najib M. Rahman,Giuseppe Cardillo,Nick A Maskell,Nick A Maskell +15 more
TL;DR: The literature revealed that talc pleurodesis and indwelling pleural catheters effectively manage the symptoms of MPE and the LENT score was identified as a validated tool for predicting survival in MPE, with Brims' prognostic score demonstrating utility in mesothelioma prognostication.
Journal ArticleDOI
Blocking the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition pathway abrogates resistance to anti-folate chemotherapy in lung cancer
S-Q. Liang,Thomas M. Marti,Patrick Dorn,Laurène Froment,Sean Hall,Sabina Berezowska,Gregor J. Kocher,Ralph A. Schmid,RW Peng +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that chemoresistance to pemetrexed is associated with a stem cell-like phenotype characterized by an enriched stem cell gene signature, augmented aldehyde dehydrogenase activity and greater clonogenic potential, highlighting the potential of EMT pathway inhibition to enhance chemotherapeutic response of lung cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
miR-29b Mediates NF-κB Signaling in KRAS-Induced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancers.
Stephanie Langsch,Ulrich Baumgartner,Stefan Haemmig,Cornelia Schlup,Stephan C. Schäfer,Sabina Berezowska,Gregor Rieger,Patrick Dorn,Mario P. Tschan,Erik Vassella +9 more
TL;DR: The results reveal a complexity in cancer for miR-29b, which can act as either an oncogene or tumor suppressor gene depending on signaling context and could confer sensitivity to intrinsic apoptosis triggered by exposure to cisplatin.
Journal ArticleDOI
ERS/EACTS statement on the management of malignant pleural effusions.
Anna C. Bibby,Patrick Dorn,Ioannis Psallidas,José M. Porcel,Julius Janssen,Marios Froudarakis,Dragan Subotic,P Astoul,Peter B. Licht,Ralph A. Schmid,Arnaud Scherpereel,Najib M. Rahman,Nick A Maskell,Giuseppe Cardillo +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the literature on the management of malignant pleural effusions (MPE) is presented, including the optimum management of symptomatic MPE, management of trapped lung in MPE and management of loculated MPE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tumor Initiation Capacity and Therapy Resistance Are Differential Features of EMT-Related Subpopulations in the NSCLC Cell Line A549
Colin Tièche,Yanyun Gao,Elias D. Bührer,Nina Hobi,Sabina Berezowska,Kurt Wyler,Laurène Froment,Stefan Weis,Ren-Wang Peng,Rémy Bruggmann,Primo Schär,Michael A. Amrein,Sean R R Hall,Patrick Dorn,Gregor J. Kocher,Carsten Riether,Adrian F. Ochsenbein,Ralph A. Schmid,Thomas M. Marti +18 more
TL;DR: The results show that A549 subpopulations might serve as a unique system to explore the network of stemness, cellular plasticity, tumor initiation capacity, invasive and metastatic potential, and chemo/radiotherapy resistance.
