Evidence that molybdenum‐dependent nitrogen fixation is not limited by high sulfate concentrations in marine environments

TL;DR: In situ bioassays demonstrate that MO is not the limiting nutrient for N2 fixation by marine assemblages and propose that widespread limitation of N, fixation in marine environments is due to deficiencies in organic matter and appropriate microhabitats rather than Mo.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evidence for Two Dinitrogenase Reductases under Regulatory Control by Molybdenum in Azotobacter Vinelandii

TL;DR: Results with the Nif− strains provide evidence for the existence of two reductase activities, one of which is expressed in the presence of Mo (dinitrogenase reduct enzyme) and the other in the absence ofMo (alternative reduCTase).
Journal ArticleDOI

Isolation and partial characterization of fix− mutants from Rhizobium strain 32H1

TL;DR: Eight ineffective mutant strains were isolated from N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine mutagenized cultures of cowpea Rhizobium strain 32H1, with the exception of strain CR2, which reduced less than 1% of the amount of acetylene reduced by the wild type, in both the free-living and symbiotic assays.
