2D gravity and random matrices

TL;DR: In this article, the authors review recent progress in 2D gravity coupled to d < 1 conformal matter, based on a representation of discrete gravity in terms of random matrices and discuss the saddle point approximation for these models, including a class of related O(n) matrix models.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Remnant of Chiral Symmetry on the Lattice

TL;DR: In this article, a new chiral symmetry criterion for lattice theories of fermions is derived within a block-spin formalism, which properly incorporates the Adler Bell-Jackiw anomaly and avoids the fermion-doubling problem of other lattice methods.

Lectures on 2-D gravity and 2-D string theory

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus on 2D target space (c = 1 coupled to gravity) coupled to 2D critical string theory.emphasis is on 2d target space.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Structure of Gauge and Gravitational Anomalies

TL;DR: In this paper, the form of the gauge and gravitational anomalies in quantum field theories may be derived from classical index theorems, and the relation between various forms of the anomaly present in the literature is also clarified.
Journal ArticleDOI

First and second order phase transitions in gauge theories at finite temperature

Paul Ginsparg
- 15 Dec 1980 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the phase transition in 4D gauge theories coupled to scalar and spinor fields at finite temperature was studied. But the phase transitions were not investigated in terms of the Lagrangian of the zero frequency mode.
