TROPOMI on the ESA Sentinel-5 Precursor: A GMES mission for global observations of the atmospheric composition for climate, air quality and ozone layer applications
J.P. Veefkind,J.P. Veefkind,Ilse Aben,K McMullan,H Forster,J. de Vries,Gerard Otter,J. Claas,Henk Eskes,J. F. de Haan,Quintus Kleipool,M. van Weele,Otto Hasekamp,Ruud W. M. Hoogeveen,Jochen Landgraf,Ralph Snel,Paul J. J. Tol,P. Ingmann,Robert Voors,Bob Kruizinga,Rob Vink,HC Visser,Pieternel F. Levelt,Pieternel F. Levelt +23 more
TL;DR: The European Space Agency's Sentinel-5 Precursor (S-5 P) is a low Earth orbit polar satellite to provide information and services on air quality, climate and the ozone layer in the timeframe 2015-2022 as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global column-averaged methane mixing ratios from 2003 to 2009 as derived from SCIAMACHY: Trends and variability
Christian Frankenberg,Christian Frankenberg,Ilse Aben,P. Bergamaschi,Edward J. Dlugokencky,R. van Hees,Sander Houweling,P. van der Meer,Ralph Snel,Paul J. J. Tol +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, a long-term data set of column-averaged methane mixing ratios retrieved from spectra of the Scanning Imaging Absorption Spectrometer for Atmospheric Cartography (SCIAMACHY) instrument onboard Envisat is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Potential of the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) onboard the Sentinel-5 Precursor for the monitoring of terrestrial chlorophyll fluorescence
Luis Guanter,Ilse Aben,Paul J. J. Tol,J. M. Krijger,André Hollstein,Philipp Köhler,Alexander Damm,Joanna Joiner,Christian Frankenberg,Jochen Landgraf +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the potential of the upcoming TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) onboard the Sentinel-5 Precursor satellite mission for SIF retrieval.
Journal ArticleDOI
Satellite observations reveal extreme methane leakage from a natural gas well blowout
Sudhanshu Pandey,Sudhanshu Pandey,Ritesh Gautam,Sander Houweling,Sander Houweling,Hugo Denier van der Gon,Pankaj Sadavarte,Pankaj Sadavarte,Tobias Borsdorff,Otto Hasekamp,Jochen Landgraf,Paul J. J. Tol,Tim A. van Kempen,Ruud W. M. Hoogeveen,Richard van Hees,Steven P. Hamburg,Joannes D. Maasakkers,Ilse Aben +17 more
TL;DR: The detection of large methane emissions from a gas well blowout in Ohio during February to March 2018 is reported using measurements of TROPOMI in its routine global survey, providing quantitative assessment of associated methane emissions.
Journal ArticleDOI
TROPOMI aboard Sentinel-5 Precursor: Prospective performance of CH4 retrievals for aerosol and cirrus loaded atmospheres
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed and evaluated a method to minimise these errors by simultaneously retrieving CH4 total column concentrations and scattering properties of the atmosphere, which is based on a parameterisation of particle amount, height distribution, and microphysical properties.
