Optimised biomolecular extraction for metagenomic analysis of microbial biofilms from high-mountain streams
Susheel Bhanu Busi,Paraskevi Pramateftaki,Jade Brandani,Stilianos Fodelianakis,Hannes Peter,Rashi Halder,Paul Wilmes,Tom J. Battin +7 more
TL;DR: This study provides a first systematic and extensive analysis of the different options for extraction of nucleic acids from glacier-fed streams for high-throughput sequencing applications, which may be applied to other extreme environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combinatorial analysis reveals highly coordinated early-stage immune reactions that predict later antiviral immunity in mild COVID-19 patients
Christophe Capelle,Séverine Ciré,Olivia Domingues,Isabelle Ernens,Fanny Hedin,A. Fischer,Chantal J. Snoeck,Wim Ammerlaan,Maria Konstantinou,Kamil Grzyb,Alexander Skupin,Cara L. Carty,Christiane Hilger,Georges Gilson,A. Celebic,Paul Wilmes,Antonio del Sol,Ian Kaplan,Fay Betsou,Tamir T Abdelrahman,Antonio Cosma,Michel Vaillant,Guy Fagherazzi,Markus Ollert,Feng Q. Hefeng +24 more
TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper systematically analyzed 484 peripheral cellular or soluble immune features in a longitudinal cohort of 63 mild and 15 hospitalized patients versus 14 asymptomatic and 26 household controls, revealing a combinatorial picture and trajectory of various arms of the highly coordinated early stage immune responses in mild COVID-19 patients.

The microbiome of cryospheric ecosystems
Massimo Bourquin,Susheel Bhanu Busi,Stilianos Fodelianakis,Hannes Peter,Alex D. Washburne,Tyler J. Kohler,Leïla Ezzat,Grégoire Michoud,Paul Wilmes,Tom J. Battin +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a global inventory of the microbiome from snow, ice, permafrost soils, and both coastal and freshwater ecosystems under glacier influence is presented, combining phylogenetic and taxonomic approaches, finding that these cryospheric ecosystems share a microbiome with representatives across the bacterial tree of life and apparent signatures of early and constrained radiation.
