Journal ArticleDOI
Excitation of solar p-modes
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the rates at which energy is supplied to individual p-modes as a function of their frequencies and angular degrees l. The observedally determined rates are compared with those calculated on the hypothesis that the modes are stochastically excited by turbulent convection.
Journal ArticleDOI
The evolution of a structured relativistic jet and gamma-ray burst afterglow light curves
Pawan Kumar,Jonathan Granot +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors carried out a numerical hydrodynamical modeling for the evolution of a relativistic collimated outflow as it interacts with the surrounding medium and calculate the light curve resulting from synchrotron emission of the shocked fluid.
Journal ArticleDOI
Jet Energy and Other Parameters for the Afterglows of GRB 980703, GRB 990123, GRB 990510, and GRB 991216 Determined from Modeling of Multifrequency Data
A. Panaitescu,Pawan Kumar +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the radio, optical, and X-ray emission for the afterglows of GRB 980703, GRB 990123, Grb 990510, and GrB 991216 were modeled within the framework of relativistic jets to determine their physical parameters, and the models that yield acceptable fits to the data have jet energies mostly between 1050 and 1051 ergs and initial opening angles between 1° and 4°.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wave generation by turbulent convection
Peter Goldreich,Pawan Kumar +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered wave generation by turbulent convection in a plane parallel, stratified atmosphere that sits in a turbulent gravitational field, and they showed that the solar p-modes are stochastically excited by convection.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Evolution of a Structured Relativistic Jet and GRB Afterglow Light-Curves
Pawan Kumar,Jonathan Granot +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors carried out a numerical hydrodynamical modeling for the evolution of a relativistic collimated outflow, as it interacts with the surrounding medium, and calculate the light-curve resulting from synchrotron emission of the shocked fluid.
