Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma profile of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in cocaine users under outpatient treatment: influence of cocaine symptom severity and psychiatric co-morbidity
Pedro Araos,María Pedraz,Antonia Serrano,Miguel Angel Lucena,Vicente Barrios,Nuria García-Marchena,Rafael Campos-Cloute,Juan Jesús Ruiz,Pablo Romero,Juan Suárez,Elena Baixeras,Rafael de la Torre,Jorge Montesinos,Consuelo Guerri,Marta Rodríguez-Arias,José Miñarro,Roser Martínez-Riera,Marta Torrens,Julie A. Chowen,Jesús Argente,Barbara J. Mason,Francisco Javier Pavón,Fernando Rodríguez de Fonseca +22 more
TL;DR: Exposure to cocaine exposure modifies the circulating levels of pro‐inflammatory mediators and could improve the stratification of cocaine consumers seeking treatment and thus facilitate the application of appropriate interventions, including management of heightened risk of psychiatric co‐morbidity.
Journal ArticleDOI
A place for the hippocampus in the cocaine addiction circuit: Potential roles for adult hippocampal neurogenesis
Estela Castilla-Ortega,Antonia Serrano,Eduardo Blanco,Pedro Araos,Juan Suárez,Francisco Javier Pavón,Fernando Rodríguez de Fonseca,Luis J. Santín +7 more
TL;DR: Preclinical studies support AHN as a relevant component for the hippocampal effects of cocaine addiction and the potential role(s) of adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN) in cocaine addiction is reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of plasma-free endocannabinoids and their congeners in abstinent cocaine addicts seeking outpatient treatment: impact of psychiatric co-morbidity.
Francisco Javier Pavón,Pedro Araos,Antoni Pastor,Montserrat Calado,María Pedraz,Rafael Campos-Cloute,Juan Jesús Ruiz,Antonia Serrano,Eduardo Blanco,Patricia Rivera,Juan Suárez,Miguel Romero-Cuevas,Mitona Pujadas,Esperanza Vergara-Moragues,Isolde Gornemann,Marta Torrens,Rafael de la Torre,Fernando Rodríguez de Fonseca +17 more
TL;DR: It is found that the monounsaturated NAEs were significantly elevated in CUD subjects diagnosed with mood [N‐oleoyl‐ethanolamine and N‐palmitoleoyL‐ETHanolamine] and anxiety (POEA) disorders compared with non‐co‐morbid CUDSubjects, and the coexistence of alcohol use disorders did not influence the circulating levels of these free acyl derivatives.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcohol-induced cognitive deficits are associated with decreased circulating levels of the neurotrophin BDNF in humans and rats.
Daniel Silva-Peña,Nuria García-Marchena,Francisco Alén,Pedro Araos,Patricia Rivera,Antonio Vargas,María García-Fernández,Ana Isabel Martín-Velasco,María Ángeles Villanúa,Estela Castilla-Ortega,Luis J. Santín,Francisco Javier Pavón,Antonia Serrano,Gabriel Rubio,Fernando Rodríguez de Fonseca,Fernando Rodríguez de Fonseca,Juan Suárez +16 more
TL;DR: Results suggest a relevant role of BDNF/extracellular signal‐regulated kinase 2 signaling in alcohol‐induced cognitive impairment and suggest that early alcohol exposure‐derived effects on cognition are associated with neurotrophin signaling deficits.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oleoylethanolamide dose-dependently attenuates cocaine-induced behaviours through a PPARα receptor-independent mechanism.
Ainhoa Bilbao,Eduardo Blanco,María Jesús Luque-Rojas,Juan Suárez,Ana Palomino,Margarita Vida,Pedro Araos,Francisco Javier Bermúdez-Silva,Emilio Fernández-Espejo,Rainer Spanagel,Fernando Rodríguez de Fonseca +10 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that PPARα receptor does not play a critical, if any, role in mediating short‐ and long‐term psychomotor and rewarding responsiveness to cocaine, and further research is needed for the identification of the targets of OEA for its inhibitory action on cocaine‐mediated responses.
