Effects of Smoking Intervention and the Use of an Inhaled Anticholinergic Bronchodilator on the Rate of Decline of FEV1: The Lung Health Study

TL;DR: An aggressive smoking intervention program significantly reduces the age-related decline in FEV 1 in middle-aged smokers with mild airways obstruction and use of an inhaled anticholinergic bronchodilator results in a relatively small improvement inFEV 1 that appears to be reversed after the drug is discontinued.
Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI

Social support for smoking cessation and abstinence: The lung health study

Journal ArticleDOI

Design of the Lung Health Study: A randomized clinical trial of early intervention for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

TL;DR: The background, design, sample size, and power estimates for the trial, as well as the treatment program and the rationale for the choice of inhaled bronchodilator are described.
