Upstream migration activity of cyprinids and percids in a channel, monitored by a horizontal split-beam echosounder

TL;DR: In this paper, a 200 kHz digital echosounder with two split-beam transducers was aimed horizontally to monitor the upstream migration activity of fish, from 24 April to 28 June, in Aijalansalmi channel (mean width 35 m, length 700 m, and maximum depth 5 m).
Journal Article

Spatial synchrony in the inter-annual population variation of vendace (Coregonus albula (L.)) in Finnish lakes

TL;DR: Significant positive correlation between lakes in the variation of abundance of young-of-the-year recruits, residuals of a density dependence model for recruitment, newly hatched larvae and spawning stocks is detected.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phenotypic plasticity in growth and fecundity induced by strong population fluctuations affects reproductive traits of female fish

TL;DR: Vendace accommodate strong population fluctuations by their high plasticity in growth and fecundity, which affect their offspring size and consequently their recruitment and productivity, and account for their persistence and resilience in the face of high fishing mortality.
Journal Article

Perch (Perca fl uviatilis) as a factor in recruitment variations of vendace (Coregonus albula) in lake Konnevesi, Finland

TL;DR: It is suggested that predation pressure as a whole was an important factor for the onset and duration of the vendace recession in lake Konnevesi.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interlocked use of inland fish resources: a new management strategy under private property rights

TL;DR: A postal inquire addressed to Finnish commercial inland fishers examined whether existing property rights institutions’ and fishers’ harvesting policies were appropriate to establish interlocked use of multiple vendace stocks, finding almost half of fishers had, to some extent, reaped benefit from a fishing strategy that included small-scale mobility, which is consistent with the proposed strategy.
