Melissa officinalis L. essential oil: antitumoral and antioxidant activities.
Allyne Carvalho de Sousa,Daniela S. Alviano,Arie Fitzgerald Blank,Péricles Barreto Alves,Celuta S. Alviano,Cerli Rocha Gattass +5 more
TL;DR: An in‐vitro cytotoxicity assay using MTT indicated that this oil was very effective against a series of human cancer cell lines, and results pointed to the potential use of M. officinalis essential oil as an antitumoral agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of essential oils on Aedes aegypti larvae: alternatives to environmentally safe insecticides.
Wellington José da Silva,Grace Anne Azevedo Dória,R.T. Maia,Rogéria De Souza Nunes,Gílcia Aparecida de Carvalho,Arie Fitzgerald Blank,Péricles Barreto Alves,Rosilene M. Marçal,Sócrates Cabral de Holanda Cavalcanti +8 more
TL;DR: The essential oil of Lippia gracilis showed potent insecticidal effect against Aedes aegypti larvae, the vector of dengue fever, and minor compounds are probably acting synergistically to achieve H. fruticosa activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pyrolysis of tropical vegetable oils.
TL;DR: In this article, pyrolysis products of babassu (Orbignya martiana), piqui (Caryocar coriaceum), and palm oils (Elaeis guineensis) were analyzed by GC/MS using library search programs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phythochemical screening and anticonvulsant activity of Cymbopogon winterianus Jowitt (Poaceae) leaf essential oil in rodents.
Lucindo José Quintans-Júnior,Thais Teles de Souza,Bárbara L. S. Leite,N.M.N. Lessa,Leonardo Rigoldi Bonjardim,Márcio R. V. Santos,Péricles Barreto Alves,Arie Fitzgerald Blank,Angelo R. Antoniolli +8 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrated a possible activity anticonvulsant of the EO, which significantly reduced the number of animals that exhibited PTZ- and PIC-induced seizures and significantly increased the latencies of clonic seizures induced by STR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anxiolytic-like effect of sweet orange aroma in Wistar rats.
Claudia de Brito Faturi,Jose Roberto Leite,Péricles Barreto Alves,Adriane Conte Canton,Flavia Teixeira-Silva +4 more
TL;DR: Results suggest an acute anxiolytic activity of sweet orange essence of Citrus sinensis (sweet orange) essential oil, giving some scientific support to its use as a tranquilizer by aromatherapists.
