Journal ArticleDOI

Drosophila host defense after oral infection by an entomopathogenic Pseudomonas species.

TL;DR: A previously uncharacterized bacterial species, Pseudomonas entomophila (Pe), is identified, which has the capacity to induce the systemic expression of antimicrobial peptide genes in Drosophila after ingestion and induces a dramatic change in larval gene expression.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence of local immune response against oral infection in a Drosophila/Pseudomonas infection model.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that AprA, an abundant secreted metalloprotease produced by P. entomophila, is an important virulence factor and points to an important role for the antimicrobial peptide Diptericin against orally infectious Gram-negative bacteria, emphasizing the critical role of local antimacterial peptide expression against food-borne pathogens.
Journal ArticleDOI

Infection-induced host translational blockage inhibits immune responses and epithelial renewal in the Drosophila gut

TL;DR: This study draws a model of pathogenesis in which bacterial inhibition of translation by excessive activation of stress responsive pathways inhibits both immune and regenerative epithelial responses.
