Journal ArticleDOI

Origin of morphotropic phase boundaries in ferroelectrics

TL;DR: This work shows that even a pure compound, in this case lead titanate, can display a morphotropic phase boundary under pressure, and finds that complex microstructures or compositions are not necessary to obtain strong piezoelectricity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pressure-induced bonding and compound formation in xenon–hydrogen solids

TL;DR: The formation of a stable compound in the Xe-H(2) binary system is described by a suite of X-ray diffraction and optical spectroscopy measurements, indicating a weakening of the intramolecular covalent bond as well as persistence of semiconducting behaviour in the compound to at least 255 GPa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Anomalous compression behavior in lanthanum/cerium-based metallic glass under high pressure.

TL;DR: An electronic phase transition in BMG alloys, most likely a second-order amorphous-to-amorphous phase transition, is suggested.
