Journal ArticleDOI
Origin of morphotropic phase boundaries in ferroelectrics
Muhtar Ahart,Maddury Somayazulu,Ronald E. Cohen,Panchapakesan Ganesh,Przemyslaw Dera,Ho-kwang Mao,Russell J. Hemley,Yang Ren,Peter Liermann,Zhigang Wu +9 more
TL;DR: This work shows that even a pure compound, in this case lead titanate, can display a morphotropic phase boundary under pressure, and finds that complex microstructures or compositions are not necessary to obtain strong piezoelectricity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pressure-induced bonding and compound formation in xenon–hydrogen solids
Maddury Somayazulu,Przemyslaw Dera,Alexander F. Goncharov,Stephen A. Gramsch,Peter Liermann,Wenge Yang,Zhenxian Liu,Ho-kwang Mao,Russell J. Hemley +8 more
TL;DR: The formation of a stable compound in the Xe-H(2) binary system is described by a suite of X-ray diffraction and optical spectroscopy measurements, indicating a weakening of the intramolecular covalent bond as well as persistence of semiconducting behaviour in the compound to at least 255 GPa.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anomalous compression behavior in lanthanum/cerium-based metallic glass under high pressure.
Qiaoshi Zeng,Yanchun Li,C. M. Feng,Peter Liermann,Maddury Somayazulu,Guoyin Shen,Ho-kwang Mao,R. Yang,J. Liu,T. D. Hu,Jianzhong Jiang +10 more
TL;DR: An electronic phase transition in BMG alloys, most likely a second-order amorphous-to-amorphous phase transition, is suggested.
