Fly ash as a soil ameliorant for improving crop production--a review.

A system including a set of software based Explorers, and a computer assisted methodology support the development of new medical interventions for diseases. The system includes Explorer modules for discovering proposed interventions, designing clinical trials, performing pharmacoeconomic analysis, and illustrating disease progression for various patients over time including creating disease progression tutorials for patients. The Explorers support a bottom-up or data driven methodology that enables a user, such as medical researcher, to mine data sources of clinical, biologic, expert or other types of data to discover, test, evaluate, and understand a proposed intervention and its impact on disease progression in different patient types. A Target Discovery Explorer assists the user in identifying leverage points in disease progression in relationship to various patient attributes and interventions, thereby identifying a proposed intervention for the desease. A Clinical Trials Explorer assists the user in designing clinical trials based through identification of combinations of patient attributes and intervention attributes that yield efficacious changes in selected disease progression measures. A Pharmacoeconomic Explorer enables the user to determine relative costs-benefits of a proposed intervention for patients, practitioners, and payers, including quality of life results for patients, practice results for practitioners, and financial payment results for payers. A Disease Progression Explorer enables the user to visually project disease progression for specified patient attributes and interventions, in order to better understand and explain the effects of an intervention on a disease for such patients and their practitioners, and to select disease progression tutorials that are directed to the specific patient attributes and their corresponding effect on disease progression over time.

A method for applying a barrier to structures to prevent the infiltration of pest species (unwanted organisms) uses a (e.g., coating) composition formed from a polyurethane (e.g., film-forming) polymer system and a pellet comprising a pesticide incorporated into a sorbent and dispersed in the polyurethane polymer system. The composition protects the structure by application either to the structure or to a pathway that leads to the structure. Advantageous polymer systems include polyurethanes rich in urea linkages and predominating in aliphatic and alicyclic backbones.

Sustained release pest control products and their applications

In accordance with this invention, a porous sheet material is provided at intervals with bodies of a polymer which contain a 2,6-dinitroaniline. The sheet material is made porous to permit free passage of water. It may be either a perforated sheet or a woven or non-woven textile material. A particularly desirable embodiment is a non-woven fabric of non-biodegradable material. This type of material is known as a "geotextile" and is used for weed control, prevention of erosion on slopes, and other landscaping purposes. In order to obtain a root repelling property, a dinitroaniline is blended with a polymer which is attached to the geotextile or other porous material.

A method and device are disclosed which prevent the intrusion of insects onto wood structures by using a controlled release device capable of releasing insecticide. In the disclosed method, the device maintains a minimal effective level of insecticide for a predetermined period of time.

Termite and boring insect barrier for the protection of wooden structures

A knowledge system for simulating the performance of a controlled release device is provided. The system includes an input device through which the user selectively inputs one or more data parameters. The data parameters comprise first parameters including device parameters, media parameters, active chemical parameters and device release rate; and second parameters including the minimum effective inhibition zone of the device and the effective lifetime of the device. The system also includes a judgemental knowledge base which includes logic for 1) determining at least one of the second parameters from the release rate and the first parameters and 2) determining at least one of the first parameters from the other of the first parameters and the second parameters. The system further includes a device for displaying the results of the determinations to the user.
