Journal ArticleDOI
Predictors of long-term viral failure among ugandan children and adults treated with antiretroviral therapy.
Moses R. Kamya,Harriet Mayanja-Kizza,Andrew Kambugu,Sabrina Bakeera-Kitaka,Fred C. Semitala,Patricia Mwebaze-Songa,Barbara Castelnuovo,Petra Schaefer,Lisa A. Spacek,Anne Gasasira,Elly Katabira,Robert Colebunders,Thomas C. Quinn,Allan R. Ronald,David L. Thomas,Adeodata Kekitiinwa +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors identified predictors of viral failure and documented genotypic mutations in a subset of patients with viral failure after 12 months on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
Journal ArticleDOI
Incident Tuberculosis during Antiretroviral Therapy Contributes to Suboptimal Immune Reconstitution in a Large Urban HIV Clinic in Sub-Saharan Africa
Sabine Hermans,Sabine Hermans,Agnes Kiragga,Petra Schaefer,Andrew Kambugu,Andy I. M. Hoepelman,Yukari C. Manabe,Yukari C. Manabe +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors sought to determine the incidence and the long-term effects of TB during ART on HIV treatment outcome, and the risk factors for incident TB in a large urban HIV clinic in Uganda.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quality of data collection in a large HIV observational clinic database in sub-Saharan Africa: implications for clinical research and audit of care
TL;DR: There is a high rate of underreporting of OIs in a routine HIV clinic database, which has important implications for the use and interpretation of routine observational databases for research and audit, and highlights the need for regular data validation of these databases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Can response of a pruritic papular eruption to antiretroviral therapy be used as a clinical parameter to monitor virological outcome
Barbara Castelnuovo,Hellen Byakwaga,Joris Menten,Petra Schaefer,Moses R. Kamya,Robert Colebunders +5 more
TL;DR: In most patients, PPE disappears during HAART and PPE severity scores were higher in patients whose first-line HAART failed to control plasma viral load, and patients with viral load > 400 copies/ml had significantly higher PPE scores at months 9 to 12 than the patients with < 400 copy/ml.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Frequent PNPLA3 Variant Is a Sex Specific Disease Modifier in PSC Patients with Bile Duct Stenosis
Kilian Friedrich,Christian Rupp,Johannes R. Hov,Johannes R. Hov,N Steinebrunner,Karl-Heinz Weiss,Adolf Stiehl,Maik Brune,Petra Schaefer,Peter Schemmer,Peter Sauer,Peter Schirmacher,Heiko Runz,Tom H. Karlsen,Tom H. Karlsen,Wolfgang Stremmel,Daniel Gotthardt +16 more
TL;DR: In male PSC patients with severe disease with bile duct stenosis requiring intervention, the common I148M variant of the PNPLA3 gene is a risk factor for reduced survival.
