Simvastatin strongly reduces levels of Alzheimer's disease β-amyloid peptides Aβ42 and Aβ40 in vitro and in vivo

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the widely used cholesterol-lowering drugs simvastatin and lovastatin reduce intracellular and extracellular levels of Aβ42 and Aβ40 peptides in primary cultures of hippocampal neurons and mixed cortical neurons, suggesting that lipids are playing an important role in the development of Alzheimer's disease.

TL;DR: In this paper, a genome-wide association study in 400,102 individuals of European ancestry was conducted to define 279 lung function signals, 139 of which are new and the combined effect of these variants showed generalizability across smokers and never smokers, and across ancestral groups.
