A decision support model for sustainable supplier selection in sustainable supply chain management

In past years, the multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) approaches have been extensively applied by researchers to the supplier evaluation and selection problem. Many of these studies were performed in an uncertain environment described by fuzzy sets. This study provides a review of applications of MADM approaches for evaluation and selection of suppliers in a fuzzy environment. To this aim, a total of 339 publications were examined, including papers in peer-reviewed journals and reputable conferences and also some book chapters over the period of 2001 to 2016. These publications were extracted from many online databases and classified in some categories and subcategories according to the MADM approaches, and then they were analysed based on the frequency of approaches, number of citations, year of publication, country of origin and publishing journals. Organizations are continuously endeavoring to provide a healthy work environment without any incident, by Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) management. As most of the activities and processes in the organizations have risk-taking nature, identification and evaluation of risks can be useful to decrease their negative effects on the system. Although Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) technique is used widely for risk assessment, the traditional Risk Priority Number (RPN) score has shortcomings like do not considering different weights and the inherent uncertainty of risk factors as well as do not regarding all viewpoints of the experts in decision making. The aim of this study is presenting a hybrid approach based on the Linguistic FMEA, Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) and Fuzzy Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model to calculate a novel score for covering some RPN shortcomings and the prioritization of HSE risks. First, after identifying potential risks and assigning values to the RPN determinant factors by linguistic FMEA team members due to the differentiation of these values, FIS is used to reach a consensus opinion about these factors. Then, the outputs of FIS are used by the fuzzy DEA and its supper efficiency model to risk prioritization which can contribute to full prioritization. In addition to considering uncertainty and decreasing dependence on the team’s opinions, in this phase weights of triple factors are calculated based on mathematical programming. To show the ability of the proposed approach in terms of HSE risks prioritization, it has been implemented in an active company in the chemical industry. After identifying risks having high priority based on the proposed score, preventive/corrective actions are presented in accordance with the case study, and for more analysis of results, the self-organizing map has been applied in this study.

Risk analysis of health, safety and environment in chemical industry integrating linguistic FMEA, fuzzy inference system and fuzzy DEA

Business environment is characterized by greater domestic and international competitive position in the global market. Vendors play a key role in achieving the so-called corporate competition. It is not easy however to identify good vendors because evaluation is based on multiple criteria. In practice, for VSP most of the input information about the criteria is not known precisely. Intuitionistic fuzzy set is an extension of the classical fuzzy set theory (FST), which is a suitable way to deal with impreciseness. In other words, the application of intuitionistic fuzzy sets instead of fuzzy sets means the introduction of another degree of freedom called nonmembership function into the set description. In this paper, we proposed a triangular intuitionistic fuzzy number based approach for the vendor selection problem using analytical hierarchy process. The crisp data of the vendors is represented in the form of triangular intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. By applying AHP which involves decomposition, pairwise comparison, and deriving priorities for the various levels of the hierarchy, an overall crisp priority is obtained for ranking the best vendor. A numerical example illustrates our method. Lastly a sensitivity analysis is performed to find the most critical criterion on the basis of which vendor is selected.

Selection of Vendor Based on Intuitionistic Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process

Modern businesses face a more severe and challenging environment than before. Selection of vendor and evaluating its performance are decisions of strategic importance from business point of view. Selecting vendors involve those that perform optimally on the desired multicriteria dimensions like cost, quality, delivery performance, etc. In this paper we identify the major criteria for selecting vendors and develop a hierarchy through which decision maker can examine the relationship among these criteria. Some of these criteria possess characteristics of fuzziness. By applying analytical hierarchy process (AHP) based on fuzzy preference programming (FPP) a pair wise comparison is made between criteria. The whole process of fuzzy AHP involves decomposition, pairwise comparison, interval comparison, derive priorities using optimization technique of FPP. An overall crisp priority is obtained for ranking the best vendor. A numerical example illustrates our methodology.

Selection of vendor using analytical hierarchy process based on fuzzy preference programming

Selecting the right vendor from a large number of possible vendors is a non-trivial task, in which multiple criteria need to be examined carefully. The Multiple criteria decision making provides an effective framework for vendor comparison based on the evaluation of multiple conflict criteria. The decision maker's information on the conflicting criteria is imprecise due to lack of time or lack of data. Intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) is a very suitable tool to describe the imprecise decision information and deal with the uncertainty and vagueness in decision making. In this study,we propose an approach based on intuitionistic fuzzy SAW method to select an appropriate vendor. We use the simple operation of intuitionistic fuzzy arithmetic operation for calculating the aggregation score for each vendor. Finally a score function is used to rank the vendors with largest score. A numerical example illustrates our proposed approach.

An Intuitionistic Fuzzy Simple Additive Weighting (IFSAW) Method for Selection of Vendor

Summary Selecting the right vendor is an important business decision made by any organization. The decision involves multiple criteria and if the objectives vary in preference and scope, then nature of decision becomes multiobjective. In this paper, a vendor selection problem has been formulated as an intutionistic fuzzy multiobjective optimization where appropriate number of vendors is to be selected and order allocated to them. The multiobjective problem includes three objectives: minimizing the net price, maximizing the quality, and maximizing the on time deliveries subject to supplier's constraints. The objection function and the demand are treated as intutionistic fuzzy sets. An intutionistic fuzzy set has its ability to handle uncertainty with additional degrees of freedom. The Intutionistic fuzzy optimization (IFO) problem is converted into a crisp linear form and solved using optimization software Tora. The advantage of IFO is that they give better results than fuzzy/crisp optimization. The proposed approach is explained by a numerical example.
