Design of NEID, an Extreme Precision Doppler Spectrograph for WIYN
Christian Schwab,Andrew Rakich,Qian Gong,Suvrath Mahadevan,Samuel Halverson,Arpita Roy,Ryan Terrien,Paul Robertson,F. Hearty,Eric Levi,Andy Monson,Jason T. Wright,Michael W. McElwain,Chad F. Bender,Cullen H. Blake,J. Stürmer,Y. V. Gurevich,Abhijit Chakraborty,Larry Ramsey +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed an optical design for a high resolution spectrograph in response to NASA's call for an extreme precision Doppler spectrometer (EPDS) for the WIYN telescope.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
A comprehensive radial velocity error budget for next generation Doppler spectrometers
Samuel Halverson,Ryan Terrien,Suvrath Mahadevan,Arpita Roy,Chad F. Bender,Gudmundur Stefansson,Andrew J. Monson,Eric Levi,Fred Hearty,Cullen H. Blake,Michael W. McElwain,Christian Schwab,Lawrence W. Ramsey,Jason T. Wright,Sharon X. Wang,Qian Gong,Paul Roberston +16 more
TL;DR: A combination of numerical simulations, educated estimates based on published materials, extrapolations of physical models, results from laboratory measurements of spectroscopic subsystems, and informed upper limits for a variety of error sources are used to identify likely sources of systematic error and construct the global instrument performance error budget.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
A comprehensive radial velocity error budget for next generation Doppler spectrometers
Samuel Halverson,Ryan Terrien,Suvrath Mahadevan,Arpita Roy,Chad F. Bender,Gu dhmundur Kári Stefánsson,Andrew J. Monson,Eric Levi,Fred Hearty,Cullen H. Blake,Michael W. McElwain,Christian Schwab,Lawrence W. Ramsey,Jason T. Wright,Sharon X. Wang,Qian Gong,Paul Robertson +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed radial velocity error budget for the NASA-NSF Extreme Precision Doppler Spectrometer instrument concept NEID (NN-explore exoplanet Investigations with DOppler spectroscopy) is presented.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Conceptual Design of the Coronagraphic High Angular Resolution Imaging Spectrograph (CHARIS) for the Subaru Telescope
Mary Anne Peters,Tyler D. Groff,N. Jeremy Kasdin,Michael W. McElwain,Michael Galvin,Michael A. Carr,Robert H. Lupton,James E. Gunn,Gillian R. Knapp,Qian Gong,Alexis Carlotti,Timothy D. Brandt,Markus Janson,Olivier Guyon,Frantz Martinache,Masahiko Hayashi,Naruhisa Takato +16 more
TL;DR: The Coronagraphic High Angular Resolution Imaging Spectrograph (CHARIS) as discussed by the authors is a lenslet-based, cryogenic integral field spectrograph for imaging exoplanets on the Subaru telescope.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
The Large UV/Optical/Infrared Surveyor (LUVOIR): Decadal Mission concept design update
Matthew R. Bolcar,Steve Aloezos,Vincent T. Bly,Christine Collins,Julie A. Crooke,Courtney D. Dressing,Lou Fantano,Lee Feinberg,Gene G. Gochar,Qian Gong,Jason E. Hylan,Andrew Jones,Irving Linares,Marc Postman,Laurent Pueyo,Aki Roberge,Lia W. Sacks,S. Tompkins,Garrett West +18 more
TL;DR: In preparation for the 2020 Astrophysics Decadal Survey, NASA has commissioned the study of four large mission concepts, including the Large Ultraviolet / Optical / Infrared (LUVOIR) Surveyor as mentioned in this paper, which is a 15 meter-diameter segmented-aperture telescope with a suite of serviceable instruments operating over a range of wavelengths between 100 nm to 2.5 μm.
