Advanced materials are essential to the quality of modern day life, but the synthesis of these compounds is often inefficient in terms of energy, time and resources; especially when considering the hydrothermal batch methods used to prepare many such compounds – often requiring week-long reaction times with variable yields and product quality. In contrast, Continuous flow synthesis (CFS) provides a more readily scalable means for the efficient, effective and reproducible synthesis of inorganic compounds. This publication demonstrates the novel CFS of several metal ammonium phosphates and compare the effect of synthesis route on particle size, size distribution, and crystallinity.

Genesis of Pure Se(0) Nano- and Micro- structures in Wastewater

A variety of nanostructured EuF3 with different crystalline phases and morphologies have been prepared via a simple solution route employing the reactions between Eu(NO3)3·6H2O and fluoride sources XF (X = K+, H+, NH4+, Na+, Rb+, and Cs+) under ambient conditions. The cations of the fluoride sources were found to determine the crystal structures and morphologies of the as-prepared nanostructured EuF3. X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed that the reaction of Eu(NO3)3·6H2O with KF or HF yielded nanostructured EuF3 with hexagonal structure, while orthorhombic EuF3 crystals were obtained in the reactions with NH4F, NaF, RbF, or CsF. Different nanostructures including incomplete hollow nanoplates, spherical nanoparticle aggregates, branched tree-like ramified nanostructures, nanorods, and nanowires have been prepared. The luminescent properties of the nanostructured EuF3 have also been studied.

Controlled Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured EuF3 with Different Crystalline Phases and Morphologies

A simple solution-based procedure employing NaBF4 as the fluoride source has been developed to selectively prepare nanospindles of EuF3 with an orthorhombic structure and nanodisks of EuF3 with a hexagonal structure by controlling the molar ratios of the starting materials. These as-prepared nanocrystals of EuF3 were characterized by XRD, SEM, and TEM. The nanodisks of EuF3 self-assemble into single-crystal column-like nanostructures. The photoluminescence properties of these nanoscale EuF3 species have been investigated.

Selective Synthesis and Characterization of Nanocrystalline EuF3 with Orthorhombic and Hexagonal Structures

A single-crystalline EuF3 nanoflower with a novel three-dimensional (3D) nanostructure has been successfully synthesized via a facile, fast, efficient, and mild ultrasonic irradiation solution route employing the reaction of Eu(NO3)3 and KBF4 under ambient conditions without any template or surfactant. The ultrasonic irradiation plays an important role and is necessary for the synthesis of EuF3 with the complex structure. The formation mechanism of this complex nanostructure is proposed in this paper. No template or surfactant is used in this method, which avoids the subsequent complicated workup for the removal of the template or surfactant. Furthermore, a substantial reduction in the reaction time as well as the reaction temperature is observed compared with the hydrothermal process.
