Demonstration of a 1.1 petawatt laser based on a hybrid optical parametric chirped pulse amplification/mixed Nd:glass amplifier

TL;DR: The design and performance of the Texas Petawatt Laser, which produces a 186 J 167 fs pulse based on the combination of optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) and mixed Nd:glass amplification, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental characterization of an ultrafast Thomson scattering x-ray source with three-dimensional time and frequency-domain analysis

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed comparison of the measured characteristics of Thomson backscattered x-rays produced at the PLEIADES (Picosecond Laser-Electron Interaction for the Dynamic Evaluation of Structures) facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to predicted results from a newly developed, fully three-dimensional time and frequency-domain code is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Short-pulse, high-brightness X-ray production with the PLEIADES Thomson-scattering source

TL;DR: PLEIADES as mentioned in this paper is a Thomson-scattering X-ray source that produces high-brightness, ultra-short-pulse (U-shortpulse) X-rays by colliding an ultra-relativistic (20-100 MeV) electron beam with a high-intensity, sub-picosecond, 800-nm laser pulse.
