Journal ArticleDOI
Quasi-monoenergetic laser-plasma acceleration of electrons to 2 GeV
Xiaoming Wang,Rafal Zgadzaj,N. Fazel,Zhengyan Li,S. A. Yi,Xi Zhang,W. Henderson,Y. Y. Chang,R. Korzekwa,Hai-En Tsai,Chih-Hao Pai,Hernan Quevedo,Gilliss Dyer,Erhard Gaul,Mikael Martinez,Aaron C Bernstein,T. Borger,M. Spinks,Michael E Donovan,V. Khudik,Gennady Shvets,Todd Ditmire,Michael W Downer +22 more
TL;DR: Simulations indicate that with improvements in the laser-pulse focus quality, acceleration to nearly 10 GeV should be possible with the available pulse energy, and the principal physical barriers to multi-gigaelectronvolt acceleration are overcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Demonstration of a 1.1 petawatt laser based on a hybrid optical parametric chirped pulse amplification/mixed Nd:glass amplifier
Erhard Gaul,Mikael Martinez,Joel Blakeney,A. Jochmann,Martin Ringuette,Doug Hammond,Ted Borger,Ramiro Escamilla,Skylar Douglas,W. Henderson,Gilliss Dyer,Alvin C. Erlandson,R.R. Cross,John A. Caird,Christopher A. Ebbers,Todd Ditmire +15 more
TL;DR: The design and performance of the Texas Petawatt Laser, which produces a 186 J 167 fs pulse based on the combination of optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) and mixed Nd:glass amplification, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Compact tunable Compton x-ray source from laser-plasma accelerator and plasma mirror
Hai-En Tsai,Xiaoming Wang,Joseph M. Shaw,Zhengyan Li,Alexey Arefiev,Xi Zhang,Rafal Zgadzaj,W. Henderson,Vladimir Khudik,Gennady Shvets,Michael C. Downer +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, an experimental-computational study of the parameters necessary to optimize a tunable, quasi-monoenergetic, efficient, low-background Compton backscattering (CBS) x-ray source that is based on the self-aligned combination of a laser-plasma accelerator (LPA) and a plasma mirror (PM) is presented.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present an experimental-computational study of the parameters necessary to optimize a tunable, quasi-monoenergetic, efficient, low-background Compton backscattering (CBS) x-ray source that is based on the self-aligned combination of a laser-plasma accelerator (LPA) and a plasma mirror (PM).
Journal ArticleDOI
Numerical modelling of a 10-cm-long multi-GeV laser wakefield accelerator driven by a self-guided petawatt pulse
Serguei Y. Kalmykov,S. A. Yi,Arnaud Beck,A. Lifschitz,Xavier Davoine,Erik Lefebvre,Alexander Pukhov,V. Khudik,Gennady Shvets,Steven A. Reed,P. Dong,Xiaoming Wang,D Du,Stefan Bedacht,Rafal Zgadzaj,W. Henderson,Aaron C Bernstein,Gilliss Dyer,Mikael Martinez,Erhard Gaul,Todd Ditmire,Michael C. Downer +21 more
TL;DR: In this article, a self-guided, multi-centimetre-long multi-GeV laser wakefield electron accelerator has been demonstrated using the CALDER-Circ code in quasi-cylindrical geometry.
