Evaluation and Reduction of Signal Integrity Issues in Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube On-Chip VLSI Interconnects

The security and energy efficiency of resource-constrained distributed sensors are the major concerns in the Internet of Things (IoT) network. A novel lightweight compressive sensing (CS) method is proposed in this study for simultaneous compression and encryption of sensor data in IoT scenarios. The proposed method reduces the storage space and transmission cost and increases the IoT security, with joint compression and encryption of data by image sensors. In this proposed method, the cryptographic advantage of CS with a structurally random matrix (SRM) is considered. Block compressive sensing (BCS) with an SRM-based measurement matrix is performed to generate the compressed and primary encrypted data. To enhance security, a stream cipher-based pseudo-error vector is added to corrupt the compressed data, preventing the leakage of statistical information. The experimental results and comparative analyses show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional and state-of-art schemes in terms of reconstruction performance and encryption efficiency.

An Energy-Efficient Crosstalk Reduction Strategy for On-Chip Buses Using Carbon-Based Transistors and Interconnects

Recent studies on integrated circuits interconnections are mainly concentrated on the analysis of crosstalk and delay, by taking the trade-off between accuracy, speed, and complexity into consideration. The new idea of this paper is to apply the convex optimization method to analyze crosstalk and delay of the lossy coupled interconnections in identical and non-identical forms. For this purpose, a simple and comprehensive model is proposed to cover the functional and dynamic crosstalk in a computationally-effective way. More specifically, various case studies are determined to analyze the transient response of the coupled transmission lines with arbitrary excitation sources in the presence of both capacitive and inductive coupling characteristics. To validate the model, the numerical and Advanced Design System (ADS) simulation results are compared to indicate the desired accuracy. The calculated crosstalk percentage error of the proposed model with respect to ADS and HSPICE are less than 1.03% and 1.19%, respectively. In addition, the computational speed of the proposed method is about twice higher than ADS and HSPICE. The proposed model is extendible to handle ${N}$ coupled lines, making it appropriate to model complex integrated circuit interconnections.

Accurate Crosstalk Noise Modeling and Analysis of Non-Identical Lossy Interconnections Using Convex Optimization Method

Due to the rapid advances of technologies, the scaling of parameters are decreasing. In VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) technology, the feature size of integrated circuits (IC) has driving reduced in terms of power, speed, area and cost characteristics. The decreasing the sizes in sub-quarter microns, spacing between the components on-chip VLSI design and the signal switching time in terms of pico seconds or even less. As a result, the signal integrity (SI) issues are occurring at higher frequencies and high data rates. The evaluation of crosstalk noise between the coupled interconnect is one of the prominent issue in designing of high-speed ICs. In this paper, investigated the crosstalk noise of coupled copper (Cu) interconnect models with analytically at 32 nm technology nodes. Also, investigated the crosstalk reduction with shield insertion technique and increasing physical spacing between the coupled lines. For the low power VLSI applications, the shield insertion technique is preferable for reducing the crosstalk effects in coupled interconnects.

Analysis and minimization of crosstalk noise in copper interconnects for high-speed VLSI circuits

In the nanoscale regime, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are being considered as a future alternative interconnect material for traditional copper (Cu) wires in integrated circuit technology. The advances in device scaling and the continuous increase of clock frequencies in very large-scale integration technology have resulted in signal integrity (SI) issues. The reduction of such SI issues in coupled multiwalled CNT bundle interconnects is evaluated herein. The worst-case crosstalk delay and peak noise voltage are simulated for three-line coupled interconnects at the 22-nm technology node. To minimize the crosstalk effects, a passive shielding technique is proposed, resulting in reductions of 15.3% and 40.8% in the dynamic in-phase and out-phase crosstalk condition, respectively. The SI of single- and two-line coupled MWCNT bundle interconnects is also investigated based on eye diagrams in a channel simulator and compared with that of Cu interconnects. The eye-opening height is significantly enhanced in the MWCNT bundle and Cu interconnects when using the proposed technique. Moreover, the MWCNT bundle has a higher eye-opening compared with its Cu counterpart.

The mitigation of signal integrity issues in coupled MWCNT bundles and a comparison with Cu interconnects

The exponential increase in mobile data traffic, especially for cell-edge users, is one of the biggest concerns facing the mobile broadband community. As a result, in a multitier network, there will always be a requirement of high, interference-free transmission and reception. Beamforming (BF) is a cutting-edge technology that provides a vastly improved solution to minimize interference and increasing system capacity. As a result, the installation of relays in mobile data networks has resulted in spectral efficiency improvements and cell capacity advances in the entire system. The antenna-based millimeter wave (mmWave) is a new prospective alternative for meeting the massive growing bandwidth demand. Because of the shortest wavelength and complexity of mmWave systems, traditional estimation techniques, depends on exploration of sparsity or properties with a similar level are no longer useful, necessitating the development of more modern and sophisticated estimate algorithms to re-capture the channel matrix of interest. This work presents a thorough examination of the performance of channel estimation (CE) in antennas, with the goal of overcoming critical load and interference issues.
