Antibiotics Stimulate Formation of Vesicles in Staphylococcus aureus in both Phage-Dependent and -Independent Fashions and via Different Routes
Federica Andreoni,Masanori Toyofuku,Masanori Toyofuku,Carmen Menzi,Ratchara Kalawong,Srikanth Mairpady Shambat,Patrice Francois,Annelies S. Zinkernagel,Leo Eberl +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that antibiotics can induce MVs through different routes in the important human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus, and evidence that the amount of DNA associated with MVs formed by phage lysis is greater than that for MV formed by β-lactam antibiotic-induced blebbing is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
The role of peptidoglycan hydrolases in the formation and toxicity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa membrane vesicles.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that P. aeruginosa MVs are enriched for several autolysins, suggesting that the predatory activity of MVs depends on the combined action of different murein hydrolases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of Key Factors for Anoxic Survival of B. cenocepacia H111
Sarah Paszti,Alessandra Vitale,Yilei Liu,Rubina Braunwalder,Ratchara Kalawong,Olivier Felix Biner,Gabriella Pessi,Leo Eberl +7 more
TL;DR: Individual knockouts of these fitness determinants significantly reduced anoxic survival, and inactivation of both anr copies is shown to be lethal under anoxic conditions, and it is shown that the two-component system RoxS/RoxR and FliA are important for virulence and swarming/swimming, respectively.
