Journal ArticleDOI
Collateral damage from oral ciprofloxacin versus nitrofurantoin in outpatients with urinary tract infections: a culture-free analysis of gut microbiota
Andrew J. Stewardson,Andrew J. Stewardson,Nadia Gaïa,Patrice Francois,Surbhi Malhotra-Kumar,Cécile Delemont,B Martinez de Tejada,Jacques Schrenzel,Stéphan Juergen Harbarth,Vladimir Lazarevic,Saturn Wp,Wp Study Groups +11 more
TL;DR: This study supports use of nitrofurantoin over fluoroquinolones for treatment of uncomplicated UTIs to minimize perturbation of intestinal microbiota.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lactic Acid Bacteria Isolated from Bovine Mammary Microbiota: Potential Allies against Bovine Mastitis
Damien Bouchard,Damien Bouchard,Bianca Seridan,Bianca Seridan,Bianca Seridan,Taous Saraoui,Taous Saraoui,Lucie Rault,Lucie Rault,Pierre Germon,Candelaria Gonzalez-Moreno,Fatima Nader-Macias,Damien Baud,Patrice Francois,Victoria Chuat,Victoria Chuat,Florian Chain,Philippe Langella,Jacques Robert Nicoli,Yves Le Loir,Yves Le Loir,Sergine Even,Sergine Even +22 more
TL;DR: The goal of this study was to isolate autochthonous lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from bovine mammary microbiota that exhibit beneficial properties that could be used for mastitis prevention and/or treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Methicillin-Susceptible ST398 Staphylococcus aureus Responsible for Bloodstream Infections: An Emerging Human-Adapted Subclone?
Anne-Sophie Valentin-Domelier,Myriam Girard,Xavier Bertrand,Jérémie Violette,Patrice Francois,Pierre-Yves Donnio,Daniel Talon,Roland Quentin,Jacques Schrenzel,Nathalie van der Mee-Marquet +9 more
TL;DR: The need for active surveillance is suggested to study and control the spread of this human-adapted subclone increasingly isolated in the hospital setting.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibiotics Stimulate Formation of Vesicles in Staphylococcus aureus in both Phage-Dependent and -Independent Fashions and via Different Routes
Federica Andreoni,Masanori Toyofuku,Masanori Toyofuku,Carmen Menzi,Ratchara Kalawong,Srikanth Mairpady Shambat,Patrice Francois,Annelies S. Zinkernagel,Leo Eberl +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that antibiotics can induce MVs through different routes in the important human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus, and evidence that the amount of DNA associated with MVs formed by phage lysis is greater than that for MV formed by β-lactam antibiotic-induced blebbing is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural remodeling and oligomerization of human cathelicidin on membranes suggest fibril-like structures as active species.
Enea Sancho-Vaello,Patrice Francois,Eve-Julie Bonetti,Hauke Lilie,Sebastian Finger,Fernando Gil-Ortiz,David Gil-Carton,Kornelius Zeth +7 more
TL;DR: This study provides new insights into the fascinating plasticity ofLL-37 demonstrated at atomic resolution and opens the venue for LL-37-based molecules as novel antibiotics.
