Journal ArticleDOI

Droplet combustion studies on two novel energetic propellants, an RP-1 surrogate fuel, and their blends

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the performance of RP-1 surrogate fuel (RP-1-s), its constituents, and two novel energetic fuels (1,3-bishomocubane dimer (BHCD) and bis(nitratomethyl)-1-3-bi-mocubanes (DNMBHC) for rocket propulsion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of sooting flames by color-ratio pyrometry with a consumer-grade DSLR camera

TL;DR: The CRP results were found to yield a decent match with thermocouple measurements as well as data reported in the literature, and the potential of a CANON EOS 550D DSLR camera for measuring temperature during a transient process such as a droplet combustion event at frame rates up to 50 fps is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Droplet combustion studies on novel cage hydrocarbons using color-ratio pyrometry

TL;DR: In this article, the temperature, luminosity, and relative soot volume fraction profiles of three novel cage hydrocarbons were estimated using color-ratio pyrometry (CRP) with a consumer-grade DSLR camera.
Journal ArticleDOI

A novel approach for reducing uncertainties in soot volume fraction estimates from light extinction measurements

TL;DR: In this article, a post-processing method referred to as the extrapolated background image (EBI) method is presented, wherein the best estimate of the true value of background intensity for each pixel at a given time instant is calculated based on the measured value of intensity at a reference point in the image, outside the sooty region.
