Nitro-substituted bishomocubanes: synthesis, characterization, and application as energetic materials.

TL;DR: Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that NMBHC, NMyBHC, and DNTMBHC evaporated readily with activation energies of 58.8, 69.2, and 74.5 kJ mol(-1), respectively, while the density specific impulse, determined by using equilibrium thermodynamics, demonstrated an improvement of 75 s over standard hydrocarbons.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synthesis and energetic properties of high-nitrogen substituted bishomocubanes

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis, thermodynamic characterization, and energetic properties of three novel high-nitrogen bishomocubane-based compounds DADMBHC, DTetzBHC and DPTrizDMBHC are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Theoretical studies on the propulsive and explosive performance of strained polycyclic cage compounds

TL;DR: In this paper, ab initio molecular modelling calculations have been used for analysing 28 carbon-cage structures with the aim of identifying the best candidates for synthesis particularly for use in propellant compositions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Droplet combustion studies on two novel energetic propellants, an RP-1 surrogate fuel, and their blends

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the performance of RP-1 surrogate fuel (RP-1-s), its constituents, and two novel energetic fuels (1,3-bishomocubane dimer (BHCD) and bis(nitratomethyl)-1-3-bi-mocubanes (DNMBHC) for rocket propulsion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cubane decomposition pathways – A comprehensive study

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed chemical kinetics mechanism for the decomposition of the high energy density compound cubane was developed, along with the computed rate parameters and thermodynamic data.
