Regional computable general equilibrium (CGE) models have grown in popularity in recent years as an alternative method to examine regional economies and regional policy issues. However, the contribution of regional CGE models has yet to be assessed. Therefore, this paper surveys the literature related to regional CGE modeling. The survey includes a discussion of the contributions that CGE models have made to regional economic analysis. In addition, the basic approach of regional CGE modeling is outlined, and the key features of existing regional CGE models are detailed. The paper also appraises of the current state of the art of regional CGE modeling and suggests future research directions.

Designing tax policy in federalist economies: An overview

Regional input-output (I-O) analysis is traditionally motivated by a short-run, extreme Keynesian vision of markets. In this paper we argue that an appropriately formulated, investment-endogenous, I-O system replicates the long-run equilibria of a wide range of regional models, many of which do not operate as I-O systems in the short run. In particular, we use a computable general equilibrium (CGE) framework to illustrate the impact of an aggregate demand disturbance on an I-O and standard neoclassical model. When run forward over a number of periods, the results from the capacity-constrained neoclassical model asymptotically approach the I-O outcome. We use sensitivity analysis to examine the speed of adjustment of the neo-classical system and investigate barriers to the attainment of the I-O result.

The number of regions and sectors in most regional CGE models is small, due to data and computing limitations. The uses of such models will broaden if they have larger CGE databases. The TERM model combines a massive database with a variable aggregation facility and techniques to economize on computing capacity. This paper goes further, by outlining the use of small-region census data to devise a CGE database with an unprecedented number of regions. Already, the original TERM methodology has been used to devise multi-regional models for a number of countries. Census detail could enhance the detail in these models. Regional Balance Sheets of Gains and Losses from National Policies

runmplus brings the powerful latent variable analysis capabilities of Mplus (see www.statmodel.com) into the Stata enviroment. The runmplus module does a number of tasks: (1) creates an ascii data file suitable for use with Mplus using code from Michael N. Mitchell's stata2mplus module, (2) creates a mplus command file using options specified, (3) executes the Mplus command file using the shell, (4) dumps the Mplus model results to the results screen, and (5) extracts important and/or useful information out of the Mplus ouput file and makes these available as returned results. Other modules are included to save model fit and d selected parameter estimates over multiple runs (runmplus_fits) and to load data saved by Mplus into Stata (runmplus_load_savedata).
