TL;DR: A variety of novel transducing lines of phage λ can be obtained by induction of a mixed culture of abnormal lysogens made by mass lysogenization of a host lacking the normal prophage attachment site.
Abstract: A variety of novel transducing lines of phage λ can be obtained by induction of a mixed culture of abnormal lysogens. Such a culture is simply made by mass lysogenization of a host lacking the normal prophage attachment site.

TL;DR: Bacteriophage λ can package headfuls of prophage and host DNA but the resulting particles are not infective without removal in vitro of unpackaged DNA that protrudes from the head and prevents the attachment of tails.
Abstract: Bacteriophage λ can package headfuls of prophage and host DNA. The resulting particles are not infective without removal in vitro of unpackaged DNA that protrudes from the head and prevents the attachment of tails. After tail attachment the particles can transduce a large number of host genes.

TL;DR: The secondary sites of phage integration do not appear to carry any of the specific elements of the phage or bacterial genomes, and are measured to measure Int-promoted recombination at the secondary prophage att 's, indicating each site has specific elements which segregate during recombination.
