Journal ArticleDOI
The application of infrared spectroscopy to probe the surface morphology of alumina-supported palladium catalysts.
Timothy Lear,Robert Marshall,J. Antonio Lopez-Sanchez,S. David Jackson,Thomas M. Klapötke,Marcus Bäumer,Günther Rupprechter,Hans-Joachim Freund,David Lennon +8 more
TL;DR: It is anticipated that refinements linking the vibrational spectrum of a probe molecule with surface structure and accessible adsorption sites for such a versatile catalytic substrate provide a platform against which structure/reactivity relationships can be usefully developed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improved Description of the Surface Acidity of η-Alumina
David T. Lundie,Alastair R. McInroy,Robert Marshall,John M. Winfield,Peter R. Jones,Chris C. Dudman,Stewart F. Parker,Christopher J. Mitchell,David Lennon +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the surface acidity of an activated η-alumina catalyst was investigated by examining the interaction of pyridine with the catalyst by a combination of gravimetric and volumetric adsorption isotherms, infrared spectroscopy (diffuse reflectance and transmission), inelastic neutron scattering spectra, temperature-programmed desorption spectra (PPSS), and gravi-etric desorcization experiments.

An apparatus and method of waste treatment
TL;DR: The sharp safes as discussed by the authors is an apparatus and method of waste treatment, particularly for the treatment of medical waste which is contained in plastic containers known as sharp safe, which has an inner cavity in which the waste is placeable and means for purging the cavity with steam before applying at least one form of electromagnetic radiation to the material within the cavity.
Book ChapterDOI
The effect of hydrogen concentration on propyne hydrogenation over a carbon supported palladium catalyst studied under continuous flow conditions
TL;DR: The rate of propyne hydrogenation at 298K is shown to be critically dependent on hydrogen concentration, with a discontinuity apparent when the hydrogen: propyne concentration exceeds 6:1 as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
A model high surface area alumina-supported palladium catalyst.
Timothy Lear,Robert Marshall,Emma K. Gibson,Thomas Schütt,Thomas M. Klapötke,Günther Rupprechter,Hans-Joachim Freund,John M. Winfield,David Lennon +8 more
TL;DR: A catalyst preparative procedure is described that produces a high surface area alumina-supported palladium catalyst that yields an atypical chemisorbed carbon monoxide infrared spectrum that provides a useful reference for evaluation of catalyst crystallite morphology and its effect on reactivity profiles.
