Charlene Janion-Scheepers,Charlene Janion-Scheepers,John Measey,Brigitte Braschler,Brigitte Braschler,Steven L. Chown,Louise Coetzee,Jonathan F. Colville,Joanna F. Dames,Andrew B. Davies,Andrew B. Davies,Sarah J. Davies,Adrian L. V. Davis,Ansie S. Dippenaar-Schoeman,Grant A. Duffy,Driekie Fourie,Charles L. Griffiths,Charles R. Haddad,Michelle Hamer,David G. Herbert,Elizabeth A. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a comprehensive, cross-taxa overview of the soil biota of South Africa and discuss the literature and sampling methods used to assess soil biodiversity, available taxonomic expertise and main collections within South Africa, the availability of identification guides and online resources, and the status and distribution of described species.
Journal ArticleDOI
South African National Survey of Arachnida (SANSA) : review of current knowledge, constraints and future needs for documenting spider diversity (Arachnida: Araneae)
Anna S. Dippenaar-Schoeman,Charles R. Haddad,Stefan H. Foord,Robin Lyle,L. N. Lotz,P. Marais +5 more
TL;DR: The South African National Survey of Arachnida (SANSA) was initiated in 1997 as discussed by the authors to document and describe the arachnid fauna of South Africa, to consolidate all the available data on South African arachns into one relational database and to make this biodiversity information available to science; and to address issues concerning their conservation and sustainable use.
Journal ArticleDOI
The faunistic diversity of spiders (Arachnida: Araneae) of the Savanna Biome in South Africa
TL;DR: All available information on spider species distribution in the South African Savanna Biome was compiled and it is revealed that at a large scale the eastern region is much better surveyed than the western parts, but at finer scales throughout the region, several areas have little information.
Journal ArticleDOI
Three New Genera of Tracheline Sac Spiders from Southern Africa (Araneae: Corinnidae)
Charles R. Haddad,Robin Lyle +1 more
TL;DR: Three new genera of sac spiders of the subfamily Trachelinae (Corinnidae) are described from southern Africa, represented by three new species, and two species groups are recognised based on leg morphology.
Journal ArticleDOI
The faunistic diversity of spiders (Arachnida: Araneae) of the South African Grassland Biome
TL;DR: Information on spider species distribution in the South African Grassland Biome was compiled and a rarity index, taking into account an endemicity index and an abundance index, was determined to give a preliminary indication of the conservation importance of each species.
