Journal ArticleDOI

On the mass-to-light ratio and the initial mass function in disc galaxies

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that bottom-light initial mass functions (namely, with less mass locked in low-mass stars than the standard Salpeter initial mass function) imply a low mass-to-light (M/L) ratio for spiral galaxies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Shells of dust around AGB stars: Effects on the integrated spectrum of Single Stellar Populations

TL;DR: In this article, the spectral energy distribution (SED) of single stellar populations (SSPs) of intermediate and old ages where dust enshrouded Asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars are introduced is analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Galaxy Evolution Explorer UV emission in shell galaxies: tracing galaxy ‘rejuvenation’ episodes

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) far-ultraviolet (FUV) and nearultraviolet imaging of three nearby shell galaxies, namely NGC 2865, NGC 5018 and NGC 7135 located in low-density environments.
Journal ArticleDOI

The GALEX UV emission in shell galaxies: tracing galaxy "rejuvenation" episodes

TL;DR: In this paper, the spectral properties of shell galaxies were investigated using the GALEX far FUV and near NUV ultraviolet imaging of three nearby shell galaxies, namely NGC 2865, NGC 5018 and NGC 7135, and the relationship between the Mg2, Hbeta, HgammaA, HdeltaA Lick line strength indices and the (FUV-NUV) colour was derived from theory.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling galaxy spectra in presence of interstellar dust – I. The model of interstellar medium and the library of dusty single stellar populations

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a model for galaxy formation and evolution in the presence of dust, including graphite, silicates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
