Journal ArticleDOI

Coarse and fine regulation of wheat yield components in response to genotype and environment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between yield components from the viewpoint of phenotypic plasticity and found two main hierarchies between plasticities, namely, spikes per m2>grains per spike and grains per spike>grain size, and showed that the strength of the trade-off depends upon the magnitude of yield changes and, for large changes, the source of variation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Short Periods of Drought and High Temperature on Grain Growth and Starch Accumulation of Two Malting Barley Cultivars

TL;DR: It is concluded that drought, particularly when combined with high temperature, is more likely than heat stress to cause large reductions in grain weight of barley under field conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Source—sink relationships and grain mass at different positions within the spike in wheat

TL;DR: It is suggested that during post-anthesis period, grain yield of wheat is either sink-limited or co-limited by both source and sink but never source-limited.
Journal ArticleDOI

Shading effects on the yield of an Argentinian wheat cultivar

TL;DR: Shading treatments of 50% of the incident radiation were applied to the semidwarf wheat cultivar Leones INTA before and after anthesis in two field experiments in Argentina in 1987 and 1988, reducing biological yield, grain yield and number of grains/m2.
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding grain yield responses to source–sink ratios during grain filling in wheat and barley under contrasting environments

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of different manipulations of the source-sink ratios in wheat and barley grown at four different environmental conditions on responsiveness of sinks (grain growth and yield) and sources (spike photosynthesis and water soluble carbohydrates in the stems).
