Nicotine dependence versus smoking prevalence: comparisons among countries and categories of smokers
Karl Fagerström,Michael Kunze,Rudolf Schoberberger,Naomi Breslau,Naomi Breslau,John R. Hughes,Richard D. Hurt,Pekka Puska,Lars Ramström,Witold Zatonski +9 more
TL;DR: Successful tobacco control may result in a higher dependence among the remaining smokers (due to selective quitting by low-dependent smokers) and the remaining highly dependent smokers may need more intensive treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Craving and other characteristics of the comorbidity of alcohol and nicotine dependence
Ines Hertling,Katrin Ramskogler,Alexander Dvorak,Anton Klingler,Gerda M. Saletu-Zyhlarz,Rudolf Schoberberger,Henriette Walter,Michael Kunze,Otto M. Lesch +8 more
TL;DR: The study demonstrates that the intensity of nicotine dependence, several conditions of craving for nicotine, sleep disturbances and symptoms of depression appear to be enhanced in alcohol- dependent smokers compared with non-alcohol-dependent smokers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nocturnal sleep-disturbing nicotine craving: a newly described symptom of extreme nicotine dependence.
TL;DR: Nocturnal sleep-disturbing nicotine craving (NSDNC) is characterised by craving for cigarettes during the individual sleep times, which can be explained by the decreasing nicotine levels during the sleep time, which results in nicotine craving.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Austrian multicentre study on smoking: subgroups of nicotine dependence and their craving.
Otto M. Lesch,Alexander Dvorak,Ines Hertling,Anton Klingler,Michael Kunze,Katrin Ramskogler,Gerda M. Saletu-Zyhlarz,Rudolf Schoberberger,Henriette Walter +8 more
TL;DR: The study aimed at subtyping smokers in an attempt to better understand the phenomenon of resistant smokers and provide more information that could potentially become useful to treatment centres assuming the subtypes correlate directly with outcomes of different smoking cessation treatments, tailor-made according to subtypes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Factors delaying treatment of acute myocardial infarction
TL;DR: It is concluded that measures that increase awareness in patients at risk are vital to reduce delays in seeking medical care and hospital admission, and thus to improve the prognosis of acute myocardial infarction.
