Journal ArticleDOI
A bound on the 12C/13C ratio in near-pristine gas with ESPRESSO
TL;DR: In this paper, the carbon isotope ratio of a quiescent, near-pristine damped Lyα (DLA) system at z = 2.34 was derived using ESPRESSO data.
Journal ArticleDOI
The MUSE Ultra Deep Field (MUDF) – I. Discovery of a group of Lyα nebulae associated with a bright z ≈ 3.23 quasar pair
Elisabeta Lusso,Michele Fumagalli,Matteo Fossati,Ruari Mackenzie,Rich Bielby,F. Arrigoni Battaia,Sebastiano Cantalupo,Ryan Cooke,Stefano Cristiani,Pratika Dayal,Valentina D'Odorico,Francesco Haardt,Emma K. Lofthouse,Simon L. Morris,Celine Peroux,L. J. Prichard,Marc Rafelski,Marc Rafelski,Robert A. Simcoe,A. M. Swinbank,Tom Theuns +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the presence of a group of three Lyα nebulae associated with a bright quasar pair at z ≃ 3.23 with projected separation of ≈500 kpc is revealed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spectacular trailing streamers near lmc x-1: the first evidence of a jet?
TL;DR: In this paper, a VIMOS integral field spectroscopy of the N159F nebula surrounding LMC X-1 was performed and it was shown that the extended filamentary emission is produced primarily by ionization from a shock driven by a presently unobserved jet from LMCX-1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Discovery of a Damped Lya Absorber at z = 3.3 along a galaxy sight-line in the SSA22 field
Ken Mawatari,Akio K. Inoue,K. Kousai,Tomoki Hayashino,Ryan Cooke,Jason X. Prochaska,Toru Yamada,Yoichi Matsuda +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors reported the discovery of an intervening z = 3.335 +- 0.007 DLA along a galaxy sight-line identified among 80 Lyman Break Galaxy (LBG) spectra obtained with the Very Large Telescope/Visible Multi-Object Spectrograph survey in the SSA22 field.
Journal ArticleDOI
The primordial abundance of deuterium: ionization correction
Ryan Cooke,Max Pettini +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the relative ionization of deuterium and hydrogen in low metallicity damped Lyman α (DLA) and sub-DLA systems using a detailed suite of photoionization simulations was determined.
