Investing in the Health and Well-Being of Young Adults

This critical review is devoted to semiconducting and high spin polymers which are of great scientific interest in view of further development of the organic electronics and the emerging organic spintronic fields. Diversified synthetic strategies are discussed in detail leading to high molecular mass compounds showing appropriate redox (ionization potential (IP), electron affinity (EA)), electronic (charge carrier mobility, conductivity), optoelectronic (electroluminescence, photoconductivity) and magnetic (magnetization, ferromagnetic spin interactions) properties and used as active components of devices such as n- and p-channel field effect transistors, ambipolar light emitting transistors, light emitting diodes, photovoltaic cells, photodiodes, magnetic photoswitches, etc. Solution processing procedures developed with the goal of depositing highly ordered and oriented films of these polymers are also described. This is completed by the description of principal methods that are used for characterizing these macromolecular compounds both in solution and in the solid state. These involve various spectroscopic methods (UV-vis-NIR, UPS, pulse EPR), electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry, magnetic measurements (SQUID), and structural and morphological investigations (X-ray diffraction, STM, AFM). Finally, four classes of polymers are discussed in detail with special emphasis on the results obtained in the past three years: (i) high IP, (ii) high |EA|, (iii) low band gap and (iv) high spin ones.

New trends in peptide coupling reagents

The synthesis and characterization of a series of novel hexaphenylbenzene (HPB) based polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIM-HPBs) containing methyl, bromine, and nitrile substituents are reported. The successful formation of thin films from these polymers allowed the evaluation of the influence of the substituents on intrinsic microporosity and gas permeability. Analysis by the time-lag method also yielded information about gas diffusion coefficients and, indirectly, the gas solubility. The gas permeability varies as a function of the polarity of the substituents and shows a significant increase after treatment of the samples with methanol, especially for films cast from THF as the solvent. This enhancement, which is mostly due to an increase in the diffusion coefficient, is only partially lost upon aging of the membranes for 5 months. A Novel Synthesis of Bisbenzyl Ketones by DCC Induced Condensation of Phenylacetic Acid

Background Studies have justified that social and cultural factors influence young people not to use condoms. Sexually active people associate condoms with lack of trust, while others believe carrying them could imply sexual inexperience. The aim of this study was to provide an intervention model based on this social perception and assess the impact of the intervention in improving condom use. Methods 2083 personnel in the intervention group were subjected to behaviour change intervention based on perception and use of condoms. Using a cluster design, we randomly assigned 40 departments to department-based intervention (20) or assessment (20) groups. Around 100 persons in the same age group of 18–45 years were again randomly assigned to each group. Chi Square test was used to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. Results Over 6% individuals in the control group ( Table 2 ) had non-regular partners and out of them 23.5% had used a condom. Again, in the same group ( Fig. 1 ), 45.36% individuals thought it is acceptable for single men to use condoms with their partners and 8.15% agreed that it is alright for married women to use condoms with their husbands.
